RFI: Need a WWI 1911 Expert

Postby UnaStamus on Wed Apr 23, 2014 8:59 pm

Long story short, a friend of mine has a family member who is ailing and is trying decide whether to keep/hand-down or sell a WWI era M1911. The gun was used by my buddy's grandfather in WW1 and he kept it. The build date is supposedly from 1918. The gun allegedly has a very good to excellent finish with the original bluing and no rust or refurbishing. We're trying to figure out the value, and Blue Book doesn't really give an accurate value apparently. Numbers from $1k-$15k have been thrown around, but that's a pretty big price range.

Basically, I'm looking for a real 1911 expert to put my buddy in touch with. Anyone know anyone?

Check the magazine to make sure it's original it should be a two tone Holstein magazine I have three old colts all around that year and a 1918 1911 I can assure you it's nowhere beer 15000 but realistically depending on condition it could probably sell anywhere from 1000 to 6000 if it is in show grade condition just my opinion on the value

Find dsk on 1911forum.com. He used to be a moderator or admin for that site. Might still be.

He is a walking encyclopedia on older 1911s.
