Ruger GP -100 match champion?

Has anyone had a chance to get there hands on one of theses? Just was wondering if so what where your thought? I m on the fence yet, between ruger or smith&wesson. Heard nothing but good review so far for the ruger

Had one in my hand last January and waited a day to sit on it, next day gone for good. I hunted mine down for 4 months with money down at a few gun shops.

I have had my Match Champion for about a month now. I have shoot all my reloads through it. Eats up mouse fart lead 38spl to 16.7g of H110 under nosler 158JHP like a "champion" haha

Its one of my favorite handguns I own but equally love my 6"GP100 with a burris fast fire which I shoot out to 150yrds.

I have done triggers jobs on my 6" GP100, SP101 and now the Match Champion.

All have turned out very well. Love working with rugers stainless steel.

The trigger stock on the MC was very good but nothing can beat a human stoning and buffing the internals to perfection.

I've got a question, Nick. I like the looks of that pistol (OK, "Revolving Pistol" ), but I see that the grips have an additional thickness added compared to the GP100 stock wood/rubber panel grips where it fits in the web of the hand. I've got short fingers, and the stock wood/rubber panel grips fit fine, bit I'm concerned about trigger reach with that additional thickness.

What's your opinion?

I have always loved the black rubber Houge grips but since I have had my match champion the wood houge grips have proven to fit my hands better. I tent to fight the rubber finger groves in speed shooting and with gloves while the wood grips just "homes" in high on the back strap with no need to worry about finger groves or tacky rubber.

I do like my rubber grips on hot days when my palms are not dry. The tacky rubber and finger groves then gives you an advantage for more surface area to keep a solid purchase.

In cold weather hunting I will swap out the wood grips on to my 6"gp

The rubber houge grips have a hump on the back strap that has always seemed a little to big for my paws but the wood houge grips got it just right being a little bit more shaved down so to speak. In a nutshell I can get more of my trigger finger on the trigger or more reach to put it easy.

I would buy wood houge grip for my 6" gp but they are going for ~$90 at shopruger.com if I recall correctly.

Well, I've got the picture I need to show, but I can't get a link to it. If I could show it, you'd instantly understand what I'm saying.

The profile of both grips you show are very similar, BUT LARGER, than my grips (the older style). Do you have any experience with the older grips?

Im at work now but Im guessing you have the black rubber grips with wood insert side panels?

I have a super redhawk with the grips I mentioned above that I believe work with GP100's as well.

I think they are the same on the Redhawk and GP100. I've sent the picture to Pat to post.

I also noticed, from my comparison pics that will appear here soon ( ) that the distance behind the trigger guard is longer on yours (with either grip you show) than mine. I marked that, too.

Thanks, Pat. That's more than I gave you, but really shows the difference I was trying (badly) to describe. My question still is, for people with short fingers (like me), can you notice a difference?
