Glock 20 in 10 mm auto.

Postby Lil' Dog on Sat Jan 24, 2015 9:27 am

I am looking to buy a Glock 20 in 10 mm auto. I have not owned a Glock before. Who out there owns one? Have you ever taken it hunting?

Never owned a Glock??? Oh, the horror, the horror!!!! :P First thing you need to know that "Tupperware is dishwasher safe", so you can clean it with the dinner dishes! :P

More seriously, at the SHOT show Glock introduced a 6" longslide barrel in 10mm, and for a hunting gun (with red dot sight, no less) that would be the gun.

You also need to know that a LOT of 10mm ammo is watered down crap, and barely more powerful than a 40 Short & Weak. The original Norma factory spec for 10mm ammo is a 200 grain XTP bullet going 1200 FPS out of a 5" barrel. Going to a 6" barrel will get you an additional 50 FPS. You can get the good stuff from Corbon or DoubleTap or Buffalo Bore.

I would recommend renting a Glock and trying it before you buy, they're not for everyone. I rented Glock 20 at Bill's north when I was thinking I wanted one.

There is no "in between" with Glock. You either love or hate them. To some they have cult like status. You heare things like, "all guns should be Glocks" or "if I could have 10 guns they would all be Glocks" and the like. I'm not a fan of the polymer frames and the articulated trigger. The factory trigger on mine was terrible and the cost of a trigger job was pricey. I didn't realize that until I handled a Sig Sauer and saw the light.

Agree with folks above, Glocks are not for everybody. My hand hurts after 30 minutes with a CO2 Laser firing Glock at Gander Mountain virtual range, but I feel just fine after a two hour session with a real 1911...
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

I actually just gave a good friend a hell of a deal on a Gen4 G20 I bought last year brand new. Great gun! I will buy another on later this year. He traded me a AR15 and 900 rounds of ammo for the gun. ;)

I would look at the new Glock 40MOS. It is a 10mm that is the same size as the Glock 41, except it comes set up to mount a red dot type sight (ie:Burris Fastfire type) on it.

I like Glocks.Carry a G23 daily.Don't have a 10mm but you are welcome to shoot my 23 if you like. You'd at least know if you like the trigger etc of a Glock before buying.

I have a G 20. You can borrow it and try to wear it out. It is a fine little pistol. The recoil is a little punishing compared to the other popguns out there. I shoot at B P R five times a week. I never saw the need to purchase factory ammo. Brass is relatively cheap and bullet selection is satisfactory. Setting it up for a hunting load would be no big deal. I would recommend installing an ultra dot scope on the slide for hunting purposes.

I used to, but when the .45 GAP came out, I quit trying. :|

Trivia question: G17 was Glock's first pistol. What does the "17" stand for? ;)

Here is a link to all the model numbers and calibers.

Wasn't the 17 named after the number of patents that Gaston had, or something like that?
