Bill's used to have a policy that would credit the rental towards the price of a purchase - not sure that is still a thing or not. At any rate, try before you buy is your best policy, however you make that happen. Not the end of the world if you miss the mark on your first purchase, but it does tie up capital...............you may not shoot well with it, but you will still own a gun that has value in trade or sale - just takes more work than try before you buy.

Bill's does apply up to one firearm rental (15.00) as credit towards the purchase of a new firearm of the same or similar model. Save your receipt!

Also any new firearm purchase gets a range pass good for two people as well as another free rental

I am going to go to Bills with my neighbour to rent a few guns and use his to cut down on rental. Will be going next week hopefully when our schedules work. Renting a few definitely sounds like the way to go according to the majority here so thanks for that. Also looks like quite a few instructors here which I will be looking for in the near future if that is something people are allowed to solicit on the site but ill approach that after I pick something up.

Over the years, I've rented a lot of guns from Bill's and learned a huge amount by doing so. You can't go wrong.

Just another plug for Ahlman's Shooters Roundup, because you don't have to rent guns to shoot, just buy ammo.

I don't benefit from saying that, just think it's a great place to shoot for cheap. A little packed, so be prepared to wait in line.

Can someone tell me why Gander Mountain is on everyone's **** list?
Donald Trump got more fat women moving in one day than Michelle Obama did in eight years.

Their not on mine, they just have their special place in the market. You know when you need something right now and there's no fleetfarm or Cabelas within reasonable driving distance.

Price - if you paid GM prices you paid too much

Service - they are no nordstroms

Knowledge - they gun bs is strong at their gun counter

Not that others do not have their issues but if being poor at these 3 was the goal , they would be the best of the best.

never been to Nordstrom's, and if by gun knowledge (or lack thereof), you're including Rules ! & 2, I concor.
More than once I've seen the clerk pull a handgun out of the case, wave it around, and hand it to a customer without checking the chamber.
This alone keeps me clear of the gun dept when there are people around, and out of the buildings in general as a safety concern.
And yes that happens other shops as well.
It seems rare that name brand (vs store brand) merchandise is competitively priced.

Only time I've ever seen a competitive price at Gouger is when it was a mistake.

That's a good point, I did get a pair of Lacrosse Alphaburly 1500 gram thinsulate boots once for $80. I even asked them if it was a mistake but the cashier said that's how they ring up so they sold them to me. All the other boxes scanned at about $160.

Mine was a North Face jacket marked down from $225 to $64. It rang up at the register at $199...but after conferring with a manager they honored the tagged price even though it was an error. I'll hand it to them on their customer service on that one.

I don't know how Gander Mountain is still in business. I go past their place in Rogers about once a month on my way to Cabelas and their parking lot is always empty. But I will send people there - not to buy, but to be able to touch and feel. They have an awesome selection of(overpriced) guns, and with no-one in the store, you could spend the whole day there finding exactly the one that feels best in the hand. I still have to warn people I send not to pay much attention to the guys behind the counter and warn them that if they buy there they're paying too much. But aside from that it's a great resource.

Warning - not work safe:

I bought my Sig X5 from Gouger Mt because it was actually on sale and they're not too easy to get. When I got there to pick it up it was still in the FEDEX box, which made me feel good since no one had been playing with it, which I expected the clerks would have done. But once they opened the box you'd think there was a Playboy mag in there. I managed to get it secured back in the box and settled the kids down.

I truly don't like going there. Stuff is overpriced and service is poor. They rarely have anything you can't get somewhere else cheaper.
