The Sig Sauer ammo at gander and all the hollow points I've tried don't "feel" any more recoil than 40 SW in my uspc. If someone doesn't reload handgun rounds and was taking factory ammo to the bwca or similar locations, what would you recommend?

Corbon
Buffalo Bore
DoubleTap

Stay away from Underwood!! Some of their offerings are over the top, and come with disclaimers (which nobody ever reads...)    about the kinds of gun you can shoot their hellish ammo in. Original factory spec for 10mm from Norma was a 200 grain bullet @ 1200 FPS out of a 5" bbl. Some of the generic crap out there pushes a 180 grain bullet at 1050 FPS, and the Factory Spec for the 40 Short & Weak is a 180 at 980 FPS. Whooppee doo-doo......

Would you believe 45-70???

Only other pistol I know chambered for 45-70 is the Magnum Research BFR (Big Effen Revolver) and that tips the scale at 5 pounds. Obviously one of the designers of the derringer was a flat out sadist. Can't remember if there were any posts from somebody who had shot that thing, but it wasn't on the market for very long.

My brother hunts with a TC Contender in .45-70. Obviously it's a fairly big pistol compared to a derringer, but still. He took a nice hog with it on our hunting trip to MO this winter. He's also taken hog with his .500 S&W.

It must havebeen adrenaline/ high expectations to reduce perceived recoil iduring my first time out. The g20 does feel like it recoils more andis louder than my hk 40. I was convinced they were extremely similar. It's a good thing I don't do professional reviews after short periods of use . thanks for ammo recommendations

With the crappy, watered down ammo that a lot of people sell, the G20 and the 40 S&W ARE extremely similar. Only about 40-50 FPS difference with the 180 grain bullet.

For the 10mm with a 5" barrel, it's a 200 grain slug at 1200 FPS. For a 180 grain slug, it's 1300 FPS, and for a 160 grain slug it's 1400 FPS. I believe they make 150 grain and 135 grain loads, but the "GOTCHA" is that these are sucker loads with ungodly high velocities that degrade badly even over 100 yards, so while the velocity is great at the barrel, the ft-lbs at 100 yards are pathetic. I did a graph of muzzle velocity and ft-lbs for the 10mm with all these bullets sometime back.

Traded it for a Springfield loaded 1911. Guy wanted the gun bad.
