While that outcome is clearly non-desirable, it's also clearly better than paying to store them and not use them. One-time cost of destruction is better than ongoing cost of storage/maintenance. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them end up in the hands of responsible enthusiasts, but there's really not much in the way of good reason for keeping them in a warehouse collecting dust at the cost of taxpayer dollars, so if they're not going to be sold...
Or we let them outlast our current administration in hopes they eventually get to sameday see the light of day.
