Wanted one of these for a long time...

Serial number dates to Nov 1998 mfg date. It's very clean. I got the Wolff spring kit and a couple of standard weight springs. I changed the existing spring, added a shock buffer, and it just hums along. Looks like 2 of the 3 mags it came with were ordered later since they have newer features. I ordered 3 new mags; S&W is the only mfr, no aftermarket makers.

It can be a tad finicky with some ammo, but I found that the mags weren't the cleanest. I did a D&C on them, but I'm convinced they're not as good as the new ones will be.

Join the club!

I found that mine are not that finicky about ammo for function, but they do shoot some better than others.

Mine seem to like CCI green tag best, but they shoot cheap stuff as well as my Rugers shoot match ammo...

Congrats, they are fine shooters. Mine is not ammo picky, but loves regular old CCI Standard Velocity.

Mine came with two springs. One for High Velocity and one for Standard Velocity ammo. I need the right spring for the ammo I'm shooting.
Because I care, I carry.

Found it in Cabela's Gun Library in Owatonna. They had a 7" bbl but I'm not sure if it's still there.

Cabela's in Woodbury has an early model with the longer bbl and comp, first year issue I think by the SN, but they want 1,700 for it. It has the original box, a bit worse for wear. I don't think my box is original. It has some numbers on the label but I can't figure out what they mean. Maybe I'll post a photo of it.

Yes it likes CCI SV very well..

I cannot send PMs again - so I will make the big announcement and maybe you will see it first ;)

Gunstop in Minnetonka had a model 41 on the shelf as of yesterday afternoon.

41 is one of the nicest 22 auto's ever made.

Mine is 1963 vintage, my Dad bought it new, I even have the sales receipt. It has about 500rds through it. The original ones had just amazing bluing.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself for getting me to think about a Mdl. 41 again.... but you probably aren't...

I thought the same thing... How am I supposed to prepare for the next panic when all these guys are waving these fancy things in front of me??
Also, do any of you guys shoot bullseye with yours, or just shoot whatever with them?

I just shoot whatever. It's great. As I said I don't think this is the original box, but it has this label on it. Does anyone know what it refers to? I can't find any reference to those numbers.

I had a U.S. Army issue model 41 when I was on the 88th ARCOM pistol team. They are sure great shooting pistols.

Congrats on the acquisition.

If you got it from a larger gun dealer/sporting goods store...my guess is it's their own inventory label to track guns going in and out. :D

Probably true. They may have cannibalized the box from some other Smith. I store it in a pistol rug anyway. I rarely store guns in the original boxes unless there's a specific reason, such as a collector piece I plan to shoot rarely. I do keep all the boxes though.
