Top break revolvers

Postby Ivan45 on Fri Jan 01, 2016 1:29 am

I have an interest in acquiring a top break .22LR revolver. Cheaper is better, but I don't want junk. Any experience or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You will be mostly looking at Harrington & Richardson, High Standard, or Iver Johnson. These aren't "junk" but they were very basic, no frills, utilitarian guns. You will want to concentrate on post World War II guns as they were raced for high velocity 22 LR by then. Prior to then, the steels used were not rated for the higher pressure and use of such ammo led to rapid wear and tear on the guns. One needs to use standard velocity ammo in these

These brands can still be found readily though the prices have gone markedly. It was common to find them in the under $100 range regularly but now that price is the very bottom. The blame goes to the late Bill Goforth as he published a couple of books on these guns with gave interested parties a means of classifying and ordering to these guns. Bill was a very nice guy but his work made collecting these guns more expensive.

I have a couple of the H&R 999 Sportsman models. They aren't real pretty but they work well
