XD-S 9mm Mag Release Problems

Postby crickyb on Fri Jan 15, 2016 12:25 pm

Hey everyone, I just picked up a new XD-S yesterday and I love everything about it except for the magazine release. Sometimes it works great, but there are times when it takes a ton of force to depress the button and release the magazine. Has anyone else encountered problems with this?

EDIT: This only seems to be a problem with loaded magazines. It ejects unloaded magazines perfectly every time.

Loaded full mag, slide forward, is a lot of pressure on the top round with a full mag. Besides you should be locking the slide back then dropping your mag. If you get distracted you may leave a live round chambered. What you are doing you are playing with a gun with a live round chambered. Your way of dropping the mag may work better as the mag spring wares in, but your asking for a ND.

I wasn't "playing" with the gun. I just bought it yesterday so I was inspecting it to make sure rounds cycled properly and that the gun was all in proper working order. And for the record I wasn't doing this with a round in the chamber.

Pretty normal for them to be stiff. If yours depresses easily with an empty mag and no break in that's actually pretty good. Pushing up on the bottom of a full mag should get you close to the same feel as an empty mag, no?

In my opinion 2 ways to look at it: either it's a "feature" as dumping full mags is no bueno for a CCW or it's a failure in design as the trigger and mag release are fighting for space(notice your trigger and grip safety move forward when you press the mag release?)... up to you to decide which side you fall on.

I think I've got it figured out, I just didn't realize that full mags with the slide closed put downward pressure on the mag. Pushing up on the bottom of the mag solves the problem. Thanks!
