True custom revolver builders?

Postby Holland&Holland on Fri Feb 26, 2016 12:15 pm

Ok, so if one reads old gun rags, it would seem that back in the day (not entirely certain when that was) there existed true custom pistol smiths. I mean guys that could build you whatever you wanted. Not a smith that did a trigger job, shortened and ported a barrel, or machined a rib for mounts. I mean really could take a concept and build it. Do they still exist? If so who are they?

Have a crazy idea surrounding a Ruger Super Redhawk. It would need someone who could rebarrel it in a custom caliber and build a replacement cylinder.

Another outfit that does what you are talking about is Gary Reeder and his son. I have seen some of their work, but never dealt with them.

Just be expecting a very hefty bill.

I can, but that is not Russian. It's Polish.

Looked at both of these previously. While they appear to do beautiful work they look like they are more into "packages" meaning really just enhancing an existing gun. I am really looking for someone who can build a new cylinder etc in other words really needs to be able to build a gun from scratch.

Maybe I have the wrong impression of these 2?

You do. Contact them directly and they will do about anything. For the right price. Their advertised services are just the things they usually are contacted about, to save time with simple answers. True custom work takes a more in-depth review.

And it won't be cheap.

Ok, thank you.

I do not think custom and cheap are ever truly in the same sentence.

Reasonable people agree, but there are lots of the other kind that don't comprehend that principle.

Google Chrome translate did a usable job of translating it for me.
