In other words, a roasted Glock sort of winds up like a n00b when it's medium rare - soft and chewy, but not liquid.

This is still really puzzleing me..... I really want a 1911 22....... all the manufactuerers have zinc alloy(not sure about browning) but they are for sale in shops here..... gander, cabela's, scheels and on and on sell the sigs and I saw a colt also... there must be more to the rule..... I really want a colt rail or a GSG rail but I want to know they are legal first.... the black Sig would be ok but doesn't have a rail.... I wish there was some way tho check.

If anyone knows how I can check, please let me know what to do.

Thanks!!

It is not illegal to own, only for an FFL to sell to you.

Never shot the GSG but the Colt's are really good guns. They are made by Walther and imported by Umarex, Colt is just a licensed name. Buy one and don't look back. And buy extra mags when you see them, they can be hard to find.

^^^^^^ This
Current production Colt 1911 22LR passes melting point.
The only current production Walther firearm that does not pass melting point restriction is the H&K 416(per Walther's website).

Personally, I trust Cabela's/Gander to be more up to date on gun sale laws than any of us forum jockey. If it's in the case there I wouldn't hesitate to purchase.

Really you would trust a large retailer who does business is several states to be up to date? Wow I really think the FFLs and others on here have more knowledge than the hacks that work at the bug box stores. Many distributors (Bill Hicks, is one) will not sell the aforementioned guns to a retailer within the state because of the laws. Often times the big guys bypass the distributors and buy direct and have no idea.

You missed one other option... Rock Island. Their 1911 22LR is legal in MN and should not be hard to find / order. The Browning, though a fantastic gun, is not full size so I get the feeling that's not what you are looking for.

I have had a Sig (GSG), and it is the ONLY handgun I have ever sold.. I hated that guy, I had horrible issues with repeatability with shot placement. From a rest at 25 yards It had about a 7-8" group.. I tried many things, including ammo, and having other shooters try it, never did figure that pistol out, so I sold it. Hopefully the next guy figured it out.

As for me I did end up buying a Browning 1911-22, and now that gun I really like. The first thing I did was order some real wood grips from Raasco. But like others have said, it isn't full size, so it was hard to even find someone who made grips for it. Also, the trigger pull was horrible when I got the pistol. And since its not full size a normal 1911 jig wouldn't work, so I actually made my own, and learned how to do a trigger job. And after lots of trial and error, I was able to smooth it out, and lighten it up a bunch. Its pretty good now!

I had my heart set on a 1911 style 22 too, and now after all that, I really love my revolvers... LOL..

You really have 2 options:

Buy just the upper(many have chimed in with their choices, I went GSG and found it works fine)
Buy a complete gun from a local retailer(if they have it for sale it should be good to go - either way they are on the hook for selling it and not you for buying it).

IMO there is too much risk purchasing online to find out it doesn't pass the law. Markup should be minimal as they aren't that expensive to start out.

Just as a matter of record most state Saturday night special laws are 800 degrees which some of those are made to meet but ours is 1000. Tried to help a mfg get his into MN but they just couldn't get to that 1000 degree point.

I definitely would not buy online without first clearing it with where you plan on having it shipped to otherwise you run the risk of it showing up and your FFL refusing to transfer it. But as others have said if it's for sale in the case I wouldn't turn it down.

Honestly though if you don't mind the size (and price) the Browning 1911-22 is a fantastic gun. Though mine belongs to the wife so it has pink grips

Looks like right now options are: Rock Island XT 22 (no rail) Browning (no rail) and The Sigs must be legal because they are sold at many locations (no rail) Rock Islands $470 and Browning around $550 and can find Sigs a little over $400. I should be able to find an add on lower rail that a gunsmith could add on. Not sure which way to go yet but might be leaning towards a Rock Island

I'm not familiar with those but I'd be more concerned with them having a threaded barrel than having rails, assuming suppression may be a possibility.

Browning has Shot Show specials with threaded barrel and lower rail. Saw two of the threaded at Ahlman's on Saturday. I don't know if they had the rail or not, but they had 4 total (Browning website says they have the rail http://www.browning.com/products/firear ... 11-22.html ). Too small for my Medium sized hands - good for small hands only.
