The very few times that I've carried a bug it has been a S&W 640 (.357 short bbl gold dots). I pocket carry it in addition to the primary pistol on my belt (strong side).

P6 = single stack = thin
226 = double stack = thick

P6 isn't that small (comparatively speaking), but small enough to fit in a vest holster, or ankle holster and disappear. Now if you were talking about some mouse gun to keep in a pocket or something, I'd probably go with a Kahr PM9 or a Keltec, maybe even that Ruger clone.

I also still have a snub revolver but the Keltec just drops into a pocket so much easier I tend to carry it more then the snub. I used to carry a Kimber Pro and a Kimber Ultra CDP BUG then dropped to snub BUG and now finally the Keltec as the BUG.

It is a lot harder to grip the cylinder of a revolver and stop the revolver from functioning (especially if it's hammerless, as you cannot stop the hammer from falling by grabbing it either) than it is to grab a semi-auto and put the slide out of battery.

That said, I don't carry a BUG, so you can take it with a grain of salt.

EMP is a hell of a nice pistol in and of itself. I like it.

I thought you were trying to sell one a while back?

I have both a 9 mm and a 40SW EMP. The smaller grip really fits my hand.

But

Have you had any issues with the 40S&W? The Kahr PM40 that came out on the 9mm platform had some serious issues, I owned one and Kahr was helpful, but didn't take me serious as to their problem.

So does the EMP 40 work as well as the 9mm in what I assume is the same frame/slide?

i used to carry a walther ppk/s .380. still have it. it is a fine gun with no problems as long as it doesn't have under charged rounds in it (causes ftf). i just don't use it as a bug anymore. i simply don't use a bug anymore. i agree with pinnacle here:

most times i don't even carry a second mag. i figure if i would ever need more than 11 caps, i've done something terribly wrong in my practice and execution or wasn't paying enough attention to conditional awareness or i'd need another guardian angel due to the overwhelming odds against me.
come to think about it: i'm not as good as i think i once used (that is, the older i get, the better i was; not that i was ever very good) and i am suffering from crs and my current guardian angel has been asking for re-assignment. maybe i should be carrying 2 extra mags?? :hmm:

Thank you.

I haven't shot the 40 SW EMP much yet. I did notice more recoil than my 9 mm EMP that I shot in our BUG matches last summer.

As you remember, I had trouble with S&B ammo with my 9 mm EMP. Pierced primers. I think this was due to soft or weak material in S&B primers and the titanium firing pin in the EMPs. The 9 mm has been fine with all other factory ammo. As far as reloads go, the cases must be fully resized, completely to the base. I use a Lee Factory Crimp die after seating the bullet in my reloads and those work fine. If I just use a regular resizing die only, they will occasionally not fully chamber. Two friends that also have EMPs also have problems with reloads. One of them had the chamber reamed out slightly, Springfield will also do this if the gun is returned. The chambers are very tight, that is, at the minimum of the tolerances. Factory ammo has never been a problem.

Pinnicale, I remember one of the regulars on the one of the forums had one for sale a while back. Memory is one of the things that goes with age.

I don't carry an extra mag because I plan on using the extra rounds to finish my assailant off, I carry it in case I get a stoppage or failure with the one that's in the gun.

+1 on the extra mag with an auto. I usually carry a revolver, but, when I carry an auto, I have an extra mag. Not because I'll need extra ammo, but because you need another mag to clear some types of malfunctions.

Never really thought about carrying a BUG, mostly due to all my carry pistols being close to the same size (G19 and S&W 5903). I usually carry a backup mag though, just in case. I was looking at getting a BUG, but until after the new year there wont be money in the "buy more guns I dont have a real need for" fund. Oh well, one day...

Edit: That, and any gun that I want to get as a BUG (used) is from you Twin Cities people, and the roads are too crappy right now for my little pickup to try a long trip without 4WD.

I believe it was Phorvick that was selling the EMP a while back.
