Yup the additional mag is a MUST if you are carryng an Auto, and you need to know how to clear the problems effectively.

In stead of spending the additional cash on a BUG - spend the cash on a class where you can learn to fight with your primary weapon.

I carry a Kel-tec P3AT. It is small and very easy to conceal. It is my "Go Everywhere Gun" because it is small enough ad I have several holsters to adapt to my carry needs.

Damn you younger guys that still have your memory, eyesight, muscles, and lungs. I do still have my own teeth, so watch out in CQB.

Thanks, Jeff. I knew it was one of the regulars.

i do believe i have been effectively taught, reproved and corrected. an extra mag goes in the left side pocket.
as a side note: the self defense shooting class i took was one of the best expenditures i've made. it is one thing to shoot paper standing still with as much time as you want in between trigger pulls and preparing to shoot under stress and moving.
thanx for the lessons

+1 on the extra mag. The most common malfunction with an auto is a magazine problem.
And then there's the story of the magazine falling out of the gun, and we know what can happen when
it hits the floor. :o Not that it's ever happened to me.

I don't carry a bug, but am fat and happy with two extra mags or dear ol' .45 ACP. ;)

I am pretty much the recriprocal of Westhope 90% of the time I carry a 4" Kimber (with 2 reloads), when that is not feasable I carry a S&W 442 in a pocket.

As a civilian I have never had the need to carry a backup (2nd) gun, but according to Colonel Cooper all handguns are BUGs. :D

The smallest, totally reliable gun that I will carry (so I guess this is a bug) is my Glock 26... it's a fantastic gun... and it does nothing but shoot anything I feed it... and it's accurate and fun to shoot.

I switch between a glock 27 and my wifes EMP if she is not carrying it. The EMP is thinner and alot nicer to carry but I don't feel so bad about walking in the rain and snow with my glock.

Even within law enforcement, where the backup gun has been a long tradition, there is a growing number of trainers and officers who have concluded that the data on actual gun fights shows that backup guns don't help. The decisionmaking complexity in determining when to abandon a primary weapon and switch to a backup, combined with the time required to deploy a backup, add up to something inconsistent with real world combat, apparently. Better to select a reliable gun in the first place and be prepared to clear the jam or whatever problem you have and leave it at that.
