Who likes mouseguns?

JonL, the Tomcat is OK but it's not my favorite. I think it's a little thick and it weighs about the same as a S&W 642 which is my current choice when I feel the need to pocket carry. As far as .32 acp goes, if I wanted to carry one I'd prefer my PPK. Heavier than the Tomcat but it has a longer barrel and is so thin it just disappears when you conceal it.

If you're looking for a Tomcat, I'll sell you mine cheap. Good shooter, reliable but not my favorite "mouse".

Is the S&W CS9 a mouse gun compared to that .50GI?

Actually, Pat Cannon already covered that when he referrred to a .45 ACP as a "poodle shooter" caliber in relation to a .50.

And I go with the conventional wisdom that 9mm is minumum ante for a credible self defense caliber, so NOTHING that shoots 9mm ammo, no matter what size it is, qualifies a mouse gun. 32 ACP, 25 ACP, and .22LR most definitely do qualify, however, and there are the additional debilitating factors such as lack of quality (Jennings) and lack of ammo capacity (two barrel derringer) that make them even more wretched and mousey. As a general class of weapons I have a very distinct prejudice and aversion to mouseguns that predates my purchasing a 50 caliber pistol by several decades, and thought the subject was deserving of a hearty phone call to my good friend "Ralph".

As a matter of fact, I would rather have 4 Coneys from the EFFEN Gopher bar with everything on them, and a full pitcher of beer under my belt than a .22 Derringer. In a close combat situation, 4 Coneys mixed with half a gallon of beer would have considerably more impact being regurgitated than two shots from a .22!

That's paints an ugly picture ............if on the receiving end I would probably prefer the .22.

Hey mnglocker, how do you like the Taurus M85, Im thinking this would be a good revolver for the wife, She shot a .38 sp before and liked it, but it was S&W I believe and probably a lot heavier, from what I've read the M85 is only 17oz ? She'll have to try one at Bill's shooters show.

Not that I was asked (when has that EVER stopped me? ) but I have one and like it.
It was my first handgun and has been the go to do all champ. Pocket Carry? Check. IWB? Check. Simple, point and shoot, reliable, inexpensive.

It's not, however, a fun range gun. For that I have a 1911. The M85 is light and there are not a lot of grip options for it. What is available is more expensive than comparable S&W grips in my experience.

If I had it to do again, I'd go S&W for the grip options. I'd go Hammer less for snag free operation. I'd go 340PD for weight (but much more recoil IMnsHO). I'd get CT laser Grips just because. Of course, I'd go broke doing all that.

Short form: functional, reliable, inexpensive.
