Kydex mag pouch for M&P45?

Postby sigdoc on Mon Jan 05, 2009 6:41 pm

I want to shoot CDP in IDPA with an M&P45, but cannot find a kydex mag pouch suitable for the wider magazine of a double stack .45. I called Blade-tech and they confirmed that they don't yet make one for the M&P45. I asked if the ones for the Springfield XD45 or the Glock 20/21 would work but told me that their mag pouches are made specifically for the shape of each model of magazine, which didn't sound right to me.

Has anyone here found a kydex double stack mag pouch (IDPA legal) which works well (not too tight and easy to draw from) with M&P45 mags?

Have you tried a mag holder for a Para .45 double stack? I think it would work. :cogitating:

I think we have double mag holders for the XD 45, but I don't have the M&P 45 mags to try in them. If I had the mags I would try it for you.

Does it have to be out of Kydex? Can it be leather with Kydex reinforcement around the mouth? I would be willing to help you on the project, I do leather work and also have some Kydex. I can see what they say about the different mags and fitting. I have a P12 and an EAA, both double stack 45 mags but different widths and angles are noted on both. Give me a yell if interested. Tom

Thanks, Tom, but I really just want kydex. I'll keep your offer in mind, though. :)

Ron, what I am specifically looking for is a kydex mag pouch for a single mag, but two such pouches. The front lip on the floor plate on the M&P45 is so big that it is difficult removing the front mag without hooking the back mag and sometimes dislodging it to fall on the floor. Do you have two of those that would fit the XD45 magazines? Could you bring something with you Sunday for the IDPA match, either single or double mag pouches to see if the XD45 pouches work? I'd buy it on the spot if it worked (1.5 inch belt, right handed shooter).

Noel,

I will bring the samples that I have and see if anything works.

Are M&P mags any thicker than Glock 21 mags? I had a hell of a time finding enough of them, but the Uncle Mikes extra large mag holder works great on my Glock 21 mags, which seem to be the biggest .45 mags I've seen.

Click on the "Fit Chart" link to get the correct product number.

If you haven't done so, you might want to check with Safariland. Models 771 - 773 & 5771 - 5773. I'd email them
about your application after looking thru the list:

http://www.comp-tac.com

They have them listed on their website. I am sure it is the same holder as something else, like everyone else mentioned, but why guess?

I use the twin mag pouch from comp-tac for mine. Works good.

I ended up taking your suggestion and ordered the Comp-Tac mag pouch.

http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=29

I was thinking I would need two single mag pouches because of how long the front of the baseplate is on those mags and how easy it is to hook the second magazine baseplate with a finger while removing the first. But the Comp-Tac looks to have a larger spacing between magazines which might solve that problem as well.
