Pistol sights

Postby Drizzle on Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:05 pm

Had a mild disagreement with my brother tonight. He doesn't agree that blacked out rear sights and a bright front sight are the way to go, thinking that bright front and rears is where it's at, with three dots like tritium, or even the Glock factory U notch and white dot front.

I have found I shoot better with the rear blacked out. I have used dry erase marker before permanent sharpie to try this.

What say you, board posters? One bright dot, blackout rear, front and rear visible, or another choice?

Pistol sights

Blackout rear sight works better for me as well, with white dot or white outline on the front sight. I either black out the rear dots or replace the rear sight.

I like blacked out rear sights too. Many years ago I did some low light shooting in a class with two tritiums in the rear. I couldn't tell whether the front sight was in between the the rear dots or one side or the other. I went to blacked out rear sights after that.

My favorite pistol sights are single dot front and rear. Simply stack the dots. The current sights I have on my G19 are tritium sights from Suarez, but have seen other brands,

I prefer the other, fiber optics one color front and another color rear. In my case green front red rear.

For me it depends what my target is.

Bullseye: plain flat black front post and rear notch. Both serrated.

IPSC / IDPA: front red fiber optic, rear notch plain flat black serrated (maybe two rear green fiber optic).

Carry gun: front tritium inside a white ring, rear notch with two tritium inside a white ring. (Replace tritium every 7 years.)
Because I care, I carry.

Best? Red dot.

Irons-

Target (accuracy) serrated plain black.

Speed shooting games fiber optic front.

Night sights:
tritium dots with front and rear dots being different colors.

3 dots works for me. I can't see a black blade in the dark.
