And BTW - if you're gonna go big bore, the DE50 is the way to go. The mags drop free, so you can reload as fast as any other semi, and it obviously will kick the pins off the table. BTW - was this a 5 pin match or a 10 pin match, and if it was a 10, were the pins in a standard triangle configuration or in a row??
5 in a row
Oh, gee, I was hoping it was 10, because I got some bad news for you guys. A LOOONNNGGG time ago (like 33 years, maybe) I lived up in Minneapolis on County Road D about a mile East of Apache mall just after I was married. I belonged to the Minneapolis Pistol Club, which had been around since the 1930's and back then they shot every Tuesday night at the 2nd Precinct Police Station just off of 19th and Central. It was a nice facility, with 5 lanes, and the 2nd Precinct armorer was a guy named Mel who ran the range while we were there. Once in a while we would have a pin shoot, and Mel would always win. He used a 1911 that he had worked over himself, but it wasn't like it was an IPSC unlimited gun or anything. It was just a very tight and smooth 1911 that wasn't even a Gold Cup. I only heard about the scores once, but Mel had won as usual, with a time of 5.4 seconds with 5 well placed shots.
BEEP!!! Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!, and the table was clean.
Sadly, after being a member for about three years in this 50 year old club that had been using police ranges for the whole time, Tony "The Enormous Prique King Shyte Phuckwadd Anti-Gun (except for my own) "Glocks are only for terrorist"s Douchebagg Goat Phucker" Bouza got elected, and shortly thereafter we got booted and the club died with a whimper.
Hmmm - only 5 pins, with a Smith 500 with 8"+ sight radius where even a grazing shot will work - that might be doable!!
Note 1: Just saw the video of Vlad with his 44 - Magnum bigbore is definitely the way to go - If I get to do this, it's gonna be the DE 50!!
Note 2: I just remembered - Mel also shot in the Nationals every year at Camp Perry, so he was pretty damn good.
