Opinions on XD and XDM

I own 7 XD's 3 .45 and 4 9mm and none of them are M's. They fit me better than glocks and I can shoot them alot better.
The only reason I haven't purchased a XDM yet is the mags don't interchange. Just my $.02.

i have an XD40 in the compact. its my primary carry weapon (for now). i really like it. I shoot it well, it fits my hand well, i like it. the "fit" is a lot more of an issue for me being female, and smaller, i imagine, than most males.

A buddy of mine has the full sized XD and loves his as well. I can't remember the caliber his is in, but i know he OC's it out in the woods when he's out hunting or just out and about on his property.

I like it over glocks because i have an opinion (possibly incorrect) that Glocks are sloppy. this is, in fact, a good thing at times. you can drop it in the mud and it will still shoot, and at a critical moment, thats a great thing.

the job I have and my personality, lends to me having a preference for "higher tolerances" if that makes sense. hubby has a yearning for a Kimber, and this also is along those lines or reasoning.

No, they might not be the perfect gun for everyone, but i prefer it over the glock for the fact that its more... exacting...

Do you have any evidence to support your claim that XDs are built to tighter tolerances than Glocks? You could very well be right, but you're offering opinions, not facts.

I can't stand the trigger on the XD. The only two pistols I've ever shot with more reset are an HK VP70 (DAO, even) and an HK P9S. Luckily, the XDM has a much better trigger, with less reset and a better overall feel. I would never consider an XD, but the XDM made my list. Definitely worth the extra money, for me, but you might not care about reset length.

I'm also not a big fan of .40 S&W. I've got a handful of them, but I stopped buying them a couple of years ago when I realized .45 ACP actually has a smoother recoil, and is easier to shoot. All my large-frame autos are now 9mm or .45.

I personally shoot better with a Glock, so that's my competition gun, and considering it's cheaper than an XDM, you might want to shoot them head to head and choose the one (or others, like the M&P) that tickles your fancy the best.

no, i have no evidence... just some discussions i've had with other gun enthusiasts... and that's why i put the disclaimer that it was my opinion

I'll admit, i'm not really good with the technical research behind the firearms i want/own... i lean on my dad and my boytoy for that. i tend to go to Bill's show and shoot a few and like/choose them for how they feel and how they shoot and how they fit me. possibly odd way of thinking, but it works for me. it would be nice if they did the same with more rifles and other long guns as i'm in the market for a new deer rifle and would prefer to shoot one before i buy it...

Meh, just find something with a cartridge about half an inch in diameter and 3'' long or better. You'll love it! thats how I pick things out.

H&K may have been the first, but lets be realistic Glock made the polymer market(by selling a huge number of them to US LE) what it is today, thus the original statement.

But just to fuel the fire, I really prefer my 1911's over any of the tupperware guns.

I do believe the XDM has an and adjustable backstrap like the M&P and the new H&k so that you can adjust the the distance from the grip to the trigger to get a finger placement.

I have never live fired a glock, but it just doesn't feel good in the hand to me. I deffinitely am going to shoot a few before I purchase. The XD and XDM feel very good in the hand, and I like the backstrap safety.

Is the trigger, really that much better on the XDM? If so, I have to beleive it is worth the extra $90 or so.....

I love my XD 9. Has a 5" barrel length for shooting sports, I sent it back to the factory to do a trigger reset and light 2 1/2 lb. pull. Works like a charm. Most people who have felt the difference sent theirs in for adjustments and love it to. About $ 180. with new sights and longer mag release witch I have since removed. If you would like to try my XD 9 we could make arrangements.

Roumor has it a 45 version will be released next year.

There's a difference in the back strap buldge on a sub/compact/full size and the .380/9mm/.357sig/.40 platforms and the .45/10mm-fist-of-God-platforms.

YES. Standard Xd triggers suck comparred to a stock S&W Smegma. The reset is horrendus; if you want that much reset get a DOA revolver, at least it won't look like the bastard child of a 1911 and a hi-point.

The XDm however is a far cry from the original cheap Hungarian glock knock-off. The trigger is almost as nice as a Glock's and the bore axis was lowered to less than that of a cordless drill.
