Looking for a .45. Had a Kimber Ultra carry but too short and ther barrel seamed to rust/tarnish easy. Looked for a Kimber pro carry tle but I was surprised at the lack of quality control in Kimber. Gun ordered came with a dent and then one I saw at a store had marks on them.

Anyways, I have a couple revolvers and a couple Glocks. I have kind of looked at a sig 1911 nightmare but I like the durability of the Glock type guns. Which takes me towards a sig sauer P220 carry. I like the gun but are there any thing I should know for a non sig newbie? Is there any little add ons or letters in the name that mean extra?

Are there any other type of manufacturers that I should look at? I want to keep it under $1100.

Mainly the gun will be used for home defense but might carry once in a great while. So weight really isn't an issue. Size wise, I really like the 4" barrel length. Next I have small hands so that is a reason I like the 1911 handle and single stacks.

Sounds like you would be a perfect candidate for Sig P220 Elite Carry SAO. Get that and some MecGar magazines and you should be all set to go.

If you have small hands, you should also get low profile P220 grips (they are black and inexpensive). The wooden grips supplied with the P220 Elite models are not the most functional ones. I wish they came with those Aluminum grips they offer on other Sig Classic models.

Lots of good options and all kinds of price points but here are a few:

I just picked up a Ruger SR1911. It is a 5", but I still think it is worth a look. All the reviews I have seen are good, I think the gun is very good.

Springfield Champion Loaded would be a suggestion well within your price range. You can get slim grips too.

I'm not a SIG person, try to shoot the 220 before you settle on one. I've shot several flavors of SIGs, and all of them have too long a trigger reach for my small hands.
Agreed a Springfield Champion might be up your alley. If you like Glocks, how about a Glock it .45? I have to say, though, I love 9mm Glocks, but the .45's are too long for my hands as well.

Been carrying this exact gun for 2 years and have no regrets.

Thunder John just got a 5" stainless in at $800. Heck of a deal.

Check out the CZ 97B, I thought Arnzen had one if I remember right. I handled the 75B and SP-01 and they felt amazing. I can't imagine that the 97B would feel much different. My next purchase is definitely going to be an SP-01.

If you like Glock get a Glock might as well get it in GAP while your at it.

I have a P220 and a S&W 1911CS (scandium frame). The 1911 is a bit slimmer while the P220 is a bit shorter. I carry the 1911 OWB and the P220 IWB. Both are fine weapons and are very reliable. I would recommend either.

I carry the 1911 IWB and most people dispute the fact it's there. They carry very well, and with a decent holster and belt, you can wear it 16 hours a day and not notice.

i might get some snickers here, but give rock island armory's 1911's a look. all of them are put together well, i have an officer and a full size. they shoot well, use standard parts, and are available in all sorts of finishes.
yeah,. you're gonna get the "oh, gotta get a xyz custom blah blah" 2500$ pretty 1911, but if you're afraid of bruising the finish, it's never gonna leave the safe. a 4-500$ 1911 that works, is like havving a work truck. it's your work truck cuz it gets the job done. sometimes they get blinged out, sometimes not, and occasionally they get a bump or a bruise or a nick, and all it really does is add character.

One of my main carry guns is a Taurus Millenium Pro PT-145. Almost 2k down the tube with zero malfunctions and digests everything I feed it. Inexpensive so I don't mind the holster wear that is synonymous with a carry piece. 10+1 capacity and accepts 24/7 mags so that'll bump you up to 12+1 ... In a package that is only slightly larger than a glock 26/27 ...

Sig's coming out with a new 45 built off of the 226 platform. I believe it's called a 227. Supposed to hold 14 rounds as a double-stack. Like the 226, it will be a larger gun (although I can carry a 226 concealed occasionally. All depends on the weather, and right now, it would easily conceal with what I wear; however, in the summer-forget about it! This things supposed to be available in 2013 at some point.
