Who makes/sells the best 1911 mags?

Postby RangerTim on Sat Jan 12, 2013 6:13 pm

I'm a long time fan of the 1911 but I've never owned one, just shot tons of them. I just put a Kimber Custom 2 on layaway and now want to start searching for magazines. I have heard that Wilson and Chip McCormack make some really good 1911 mags, but are there any others? Kinda hurts lookin at Wilsons when they cost $35 a piece.

Wilson 47d's are all I carry.

I've had good luck with McCormick shooting stars, and metalforms for range mags. For carry, just make darn sure they work in your gun.
I do like Wilson's for my smaller 1911s, they need all the advantages they can get.

I use McCormick Power Mags in my full size and Metalform/Wilsom hybrids in my compact.

All of the above. I really like the Tripp replacement spring and follower kits.

I'm a huge Mec Gar fan, Springfield private labels some of them for OEM. Never had a bad one and the price is right.

+1 but check them in your gun first. They function flawlessly in my Colt but they don't reliably hold the slide open on the last round in Mrs. C's S&W.

Metalform, they make a bunch that other companies re-brand.

From Metalform website,
...Metalform is the premier American-made magazine for 1911 pistols. We supply high-end, custom made magazines to major OEM brands like Colt, Smith & Wesson, Kimber, and more....

Wilson ETM and Wilson 47Ds have yet to fail me.

I use Kimber mags in my Kimber Pro Elite. Never had a problem.

I use the KimPro Tac Mag's in my Custom II as well as Wilson ETM's, I can usually find good deals on the Kimber's every now and then and have had great luck with them.
