What is this and what does it do? Does it matter much that it's missing? Came back from the range and noticed this.

Locking block retaining pin...er sumthin like that there. I'd say its pretty darn important.

Name this Glock part.

It's the third cross pin. This one retains the locking block for added rigidity. Since 1990, all non 9mm Glocks came with this third pin and a larger locking block, now all have them. I wouldn't necessarily recommend firing without the pin, but I'm sure it wouldn't be catastrophic. The pin below it also retains the locking block. Without the top pin, you run the risk of the slide lock lever not being under spring tension as that pin is what adds the spring tension on the new glocks.

Not all of it, at least the black cover is gone.

What black cover? Like a cover on the pin? If so, Glock doesn't put covers on pins.

And don't fire the gun without it. The slide lock lever won't work correctly without it, and you will start to get the locking block to start rocking back and forth.

Looks like the stock trigger pin to me.

Glock pins from left to right. Trigger pin, locking block pin, trigger housing pin.

Yes, the pin part is still in the gun, but a small circle of black plastic which was there before the range trip is now gone. A similar black plastic circle is still on the pin below (#28, the trigger housing pin, according to the diagram).

Does anyone know if that small plastic circle is essential to holding the pin in place, or just cosmetic?

If there was piece of black polymer there, it may have been a piece of the molding from when the hole was made at the factory. However, It is certainly not something that is a part, cosmetic or otherwise. There are no covers over the pins on any Glock. The pins are solid steel and can be pushed out with a Glock take down tool or a good punch. Sometimes they are a little stubborn and can be gently tapped out with the tool and a weighted rubber mallet.

The diagram doesn't show a cover on the pin. That is just the dark outline of the 3D drawing. See the photos of the pins posted in the other reply to this post.

Your Glock appears to be A OK with the pin in place.
