Not if you're in the same state. You just hand over the cash.

Buying without the background check and paperwork is why people pay the high prices.

Le Pistolero - ever heard of supply and demand?

Don't subscribe to an overly complicated and sinister gun controller talking point.

This has been covered plenty. A 4473 filled out at an FFL or LGS doesn't get sent in. I believe one of our FFLs on the board mentioned that purchase of two in a seven day period gets reported to the local PD, but that's about as far as it gets. Simply having a PTP or PTC is paperwork that implies you have a gun. It doesn't list what you have.

People may be paying more for this...but I don't see where it gains them squat.

What do they get for the high price?

They get peace of mind when there ain't no paperwork.

Remember, that paperwork stays with the FFL holder for many years and if he goes out of business the government gets the info.

Of course there's a second reason some buyers pay high prices. They are really criminals who buy to sell to criminal markets where they can get even higher prices.

I've bought at farm auctions for many years and the guns always go for at least 50% more than they're worth and everybody knows it's because--no paperwork.

Lately some cautious auctioneers seem to be requiring an FFL holder to do the paperwork on each gun. That seems to moderate the prices a little.

It all seems obvious to this old man.

How many Armslist buyers are in the same state as the seller? Guessing from my sales and purchases that it is a very small percentage.

How many? Enough.

The point is, those ones who want to avoid background checks seek out the ones that live in the same state.

Why deny it or try to distord it? It happens and we may as well face it.

Don't feed the troll.

People in the US have long been able to dispose of their private property as they see fit. There are already existing laws regarding a myriad of offenses committed when one transfers a firearm to someone who's not supposed to have one; laws that are poorly enforced. Why pass more? (its rhetorical).

What are you talking about? Nobody here is wanting passing more laws that I know of.

This will be my last reply as I don't believe in feeding a deliberate troll.

You're trying to imply there is something untoward in the thousands (millions?) of private sale transactions that occur every year between law-abiding citizens of the US. There is nothing wrong with this, and its a statistically insignificant source of crime guns anyways.

Move on.

Enough what? Most sellers I know require PTP or PTC for handguns and minimum of DL for long guns to cover their behinds so who is getting those many guns you speak off and how?
