"fake" sig equinox

Postby zooperman85 on Sun Sep 13, 2009 7:21 pm

alright, so i just picked up a sig "equinox" that appearantly is not quite a real equinox. It is a standard 229 frame all black (not the stainless accent pieces) with a equinox slide on it. no nite sights, nothin special but here's the weird part. The slide has the brushed look on the sides and even stamped sig custom shop and equinox and all that jazz that you would see on any equinox, but the top of the slide does not have that brushed look half inch strip on the top. Im told that these guns were from a production run that are hard to ever come across bc they were put together by sig when they overproduced the equinox slides and werent selling them, so they didnt finish them out with the strip on the top and instead of destroying them, they just put them on standard 229 frames and called it good i guess. I even talked to a Sig rep today at the shooter show and he had never heard of anything about this. I can not find ANY info on the internet about this production that sig did. anyone have any info or ever heard about these guns???? your help would be greatly appreciated!

Odd ball combos and short runs are what cool collectables are made of. Asking for pics means people think it's intrigueing and they want to see it. And no. It is not easy to picture variant in our heads all the time.

To answer the basic question. Yes gunmakers do this sort of thing all the time. Several years ago distributors started wanting exclusive model runs to boost sales. Lew Horton had smith and colt start making unique configurations for them and did quite well. Talos and davidsons and lipskys have all had exclusives with Ruger and the old USRAC/Winchester as far as cartridge/model combos and other things like barrel and stock options.

I have a old model 48 in 28ga that was an ambercrombie & fitch special from when A&F were the outfitters store of New York
