New (used) H&K P7

Postby Rodentman on Sun Oct 11, 2009 2:51 pm

I recently bought a used (allegedly by the German police) P7. It appears not to be an early PSP due to the "P7" marking on the grips. It is not an M8, as I understand it, since it does not have the heat shield on the trigger guard. I stripped and cleaned it, and it appears to be in very fine shape. It came with a rather beat up box, recently printed instruction manual in English, and no cleaning tools for the barrel nor the gas cylinder. I am not worried about the lack of tools, but it would have been nice to have a complete package.

Overall I am happy, but I have not had it to the range yet. That will be Friday. I know, no lead bullets and no reloads.

Thanks for looking....

I am jealous. Nice piece!

Nice buy!

But be careful though, P7s tend to be like the old, lays potato chips commercials.

The P7 series is great. I don't have a PSP, but I love my P7M8's!

Gun cost me $600. If it works well, it's worth it me.

You got a good deal. That's a great price. 8-)

I LOVE my P7.

Yours is like mine, a straight P7. PSPs are marked as such. M8s have a heat shield, but more than that they have the magazine release at the bottom of the trigger guard, not on the heel (I prefer the heel release of the P7 and PSP anyways). The lack of a heat shield is not a big deal unless you plan on doing multiple quick-succession mag dumps. I've shot through classes with the P7 and never even noticed the heat. It gets a little warmer, but nothing to worry about.

Quick hint for cleaning out the gas tube: Gun Scrubber (use the plastic-safe version in case it gets on the grips). Works like a charm. Don't oil the gas tube, and don't use metal brushes on the gas piston.

Watch how far it throws brass. (heh heh) Be warned, if you get brass from this thing down your shirt, you're going to cuss loudly. Good news: the gas system alone will eject the casing. Bad news: gas system makes said casing hotter than you-know-where.

Thanks for the info. I'll be at BV range Friday AM to test this out. Also need to air out the 329NG some more. Go the Hogue S&W 500 grips for it.

Oh yeah, it fits really well in my Galco OWB G17 holster. Not a super tight fit, but the slide strap holds it in well.

Enjoy. These things are absolute tack drivers. :)

Dorian's the P7 whiz. Just ask him why, or better yet, how many. ;)

People named Dorian, anyway. Oh, did I tell you I finally picked up a P9S? My HK collection is nearly complete!

So, what kind of brush should I use on the gas piston? Brass (but that's metal)?

If any one is interested, I have about 150,000 rounds through my M13 about 2/3 of them Hard Cast lead. I use a Brass brush wheel in a drill to clean the piston, and a ground down screwdriver for the gas tube. The gus still shoots 2" groups at 75' no problem.

Good to hear it works OK with lead bullets. I have a load of those.......

I am thinking of sending mine off to Robar for NP3 refinishing. They have a 10% off coupon which includes free return shipping. I just need to get it to the range first to verify that it functions Ok.

I've just used a nylon one. After spraying gun scrubber on there, I find it needs little else.

Even the manual states that you won't get all the black off, and that it is entirely ok that way.

I have read that brass from the P7 may not be reloadable due to the fluted chamber. Any views on this? That is assuming I can find the brass after it falls from orbit.

Looks like someone cleaned the piston, no? Came this way-I haven't fired it yet. Also I heard some people soak the piston in Hoppes #9. Doesn't seem readily removable to me..........
