It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. I wonder how it will be before we start seeing it offered in other cals.

We just got in four of the "First Edition" Ruger SR-9 for $529.00. These come in black boxes and include a nice matching CRKT knife.

Not sure I like the idea of the magazine disconnect. But I've read that it is easily disconnected....

My personal favorite feature of the SR9 is the fact its magazine disconnect safety can be user-deactivated. As with a majority of today's semiauto pistols, the SR9 comes from the factory unable to be fired with the magazine removed. However, unlike any other pistol of its type, the SR9's disconnect can be deactivated simply by plucking out the disconnect link while the gun is disassembled, enabling a chambered cartridge to be fired even if the magazine is inadvertently dropped or damaged. I believe this is an essential feature for ANY personal defense or duty sidearm.

From the looks of it I like it for a number of reasons. I am a "hammer" guy. I like my guns to have hammers. If the gun doesn't have a hammer I like it to have a manual safety. I like this feature on the Ruger. Second, Ruger makes beefy guns. I would have no qualms shooting any 9mm load out of that thing. Third, the slide is stainless. I have less worries about sweat rusting it than with the miracle finish guns. Fourth, I like the consistant trigger pull of striker guns and 1911s better than SA/DA guns (even though my current 9mm is a Sig).

But...

It's a dot-zero release. Anybody who works with Microsoft knows that you never buy a dot zero release. Sorry to say Ruger's quality control is less consistant than Microsoft's. I think I'll wait until the dot-one release.

But, if Bill's puts one on the rental shelf I'll be more than willing to come up and rent it. Who knows it might change my mind.

That pretty much makes the magazine disconnect a non-issue... That's good.

So, I actually saw and handled one today. I got to dry fire it, and there is a lot of takeup in the trigger and a fairly long reset. I would like to fire one before buying.

The Carry Depot does not have any in stock, but can get them within 2 days. Our price will be in the $389-$399 area.

I just purchased one (yup, dot zero release with the free knife). Knife doesn't work but the pistol has worked flawlessly over about 300 rounds. Only complaint I have is that the trigger finger tends to rub against the bottom of the trigger guard unless I use a finger tip pull. Using the fat part of the finger, or the first joint, throws the finger against the guard. Can cause a blister.

Other than that, I'm happy with it so far.
