CZ75 opinions?

Postby xd9 on Thu Feb 11, 2010 9:20 pm

My uncle-in-law is looking at a CZ75 and asked what I thought about them. I don't own any CZ firearms and have never shot one.
Anyone care to give thier opinions on them? He said he was considering one over a Browning Highpower due to the higher cost of the Browing. I don't own one of those either. :-)

I know that many people have talked about them and liked them so i think if you search the archives i am sure you will find plenty on them :)
I read other people's emails

I've got a Hi Power. One of the favorites. I'd buy a CZ75 in a heartbeat if I would stumble upon the SA (single action) model at a good price. It's just one of those guns that's on my list to get some day, even though I've already got the HP.

I don't think you could go wrong buying any CZ. (I've got a 40B. Great gun too.)

I have a 75B that I was really impressed with. I probably wouldn't have sought one out but after I shot one my mind was changed. I like my wifes Sig 229 the most out of all of our pistols but the CZ is a close second. I am as accurate with it as I am with the Sig. I've never shot a highpower so I couldn't give you a comparison but I would have no problem with recommending the CZ.

I have one and like it a lot. The only downside is that the internals consist of a lot of parts, this seems to be academic since they don't ever break.

For the record, I did search the forum first. ;-)

Thanks all for the feedback. I will pass it along. It looks like he can't really go wrong getting one. I wish I could.

No such thing as too many CZ's. If he likes the highpower ,he should try the single action 75.I don't have one yet. But the ones I've had a chance to shoot where very nice..they may have been tweaked a bit.

EAA witness are the same basic platform, and they have become the bargain basement fun gun....

I have a Belgian HP that I love to look at and show off to other people

Drawbacks are many. Triggerpull is heavy and gritty, the trigger itself is narrow and cuts into your finger. The safety is tiny and hard to disengage fast. Magazines don't fall free when you push the magazine release. The sights are small and it is hard to get a good sightpicture fast. Hammerbite is not unheard of with stout loads. There are easy fixes for all this but I want to keep it unaltered.
I love that gun, it is an absolute classic but I shoot it very sparingly and it is very accurate when I do take it out.
If you want a shooter or a carry piece, go with the CZ. It is in all the rational categories a far superior gun IMHO. I would love to own a SA 75 myself but I've been on a shooting related spending binge lately and I have to slow down
I have a Colt Python and you don't so what do I care...

You can get an EAA Witness for $400 NIB, so it's definitely cheaper than a Browning, and strong as hell. The mags drop free, hold 17 rounds, the safety is easily thumbable, the gun is SA/DA so you can carry with the hammer down and still rock and roll. And the EAA's do NOT have the _*(*(^$^*$*&%(*)*^(&^@! mag disconnect, which many people feel is the ONLY thing that keeps the 9mm Browning from being one of the best combat guns ever built. My first gun was a 1969 Mark I Browning that I bought NIB in 1971 for $104.50, and I still have it and will never sell it. That being said, however, my EAA's get far more use.

Anyone looking at a CZ75 might also want to take a look at Armalite's AR24. Similar design, including the slide that runs inside the rails, and has a slide that is machined similarly to the SIG P210 (nice curvy bit at the back). It also has a much more ergonomic grip than any of the others. Very nice pistol at a pretty good price. I have a High Power, P210, CZ75, and AR24, and the Armalite is the equal of all of them but the P210.
