Puchase of GP100-new vs. used

Postby Chunkychuck on Sat May 29, 2010 11:11 am

I am new to guns so am looking for a little help. I'm looking at bidding on a SS 6" Gp100, 2006 (by serial number) that has a buy now price of $459, shipping 30 and my transfer fee here of $20 for an investment of $509. Discount guns has a new one for approximately $600 (including tax). Is the extra $90 worth it for buying here in the state and getting a gun I know is new vs. a used gun (relatively new) but no known history? I understand "caveat emptor", but assuming everything is up and up on the used gun, how much is gained by the new gun? The used gun has the box, lock and manual so it appears to be an apples to apples comparison other than used vs. new. Thanks for any input.

I've had less trouble with guns I've bought used than with guns I've bought new. That seems like a decent price on the used one. My 3" GP100 was $320 online, but it was far from new condition -- there's still some scars I haven't been able to sand off (I love stainless).

Buying used isn't a big deal, and if you have the time I would just wait for a deal in the state. But I would pay more just to deal with less BS. I have bought new guns on line from Buds and its seems to be a pain in the ass to save a little money. Remember what you paid for this information.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Some sellers offer a 3-day inspection. You could also e-mail or call with specific questions before you hit that BUY NOW button.

They do have the three day inspection and I have talked to the guy on the phone.

Justa has a good point, local is less hassle, and I see GPs pretty regularly at Frontiersman and GunStop. I'd give them a call.

I've owned a GP100 with a 6" barrel... it's still in excellent condition after thousands of rounds, and about 17 years... they are great guns.

for +$90 I'd buy the new one locally
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Great gun...I bought one used two years ago and have had no issues.

I would scout around and find a used one locally at one of the dealers mentioned above.
