Same thing happened with the Chiappa 1911 the year before. You would think they would do a little more checking before making these claims.

The Chiappa never claimed to be legal in MN and in fact said so from the beginning.

Have seen 2 things on web sites since the beginning and tried to help MKS Supply (the importers) work on which states have Sat Night Special laws below their 800 degree melting point (ours is 1000 BTW so it is WAY below).

"Sale Restrictions: CA, HI, IL, MA, MD, MN, SC"
"Not for sale where prohibited, know your local and state laws" which is pretty much useless when they do not mention melting point, just that it is made of "Chiappaloy"

All this brings up another question - since so many internet sellers don't know or care if a gun they sell to MN that is not legal does it then end up a problem for the FFL here who does the transfer or is it still just the selling dealer legal wise. I assume from how the law reads it would just be the selling dealer but........................??????????????

The restriction listing was added well after the imports started, unfortunately, and they were pushing this gun for almost a year before that.

I was referring to the announcements and promises made at Shot Show and distributor events, not what was put on their website after they took the orders from retailers. It was actively pushed to a number of dealers in Minnesota before they considered melting points.

Don't believe they where anywhere near selling at the point we where talking and the disclaimer was on their site shortly after that.

HOWEVER, I would have to concede that wholesalers and retailers may not have said anything or had anything on their web site. MKS as an importer didn't sell any at retail or even to dealers. All went through distributors.

Terry :

Question - Did you ever send this GSG 1911 back to ATI ? If so did they ever get back to you on what they found out why it occurred ? Since the gun was made to run on High Velocity ammo, Im curious if the Winchester 22LR333HP ammo used by the customer ( 1280 muzzle velocity ) could have anything to do with it.

Thanks

I got mine just a couple of months ago at a shop in Minnesota with no problem.
Had it at the 1911 Birthday party, mine runs great and all that tried it seemed to like it.

From what I have heard, it's the same gun from the same maker.
Diffrent grips and marking with a higher price, but it will say SIG on it.

Honestly, I think there is more here than what is being told. The gun appears to have been fired more than 17 times by the marks on the barrel as well as what appear to be bear metal on the thumb safety. I purchased one of these and have had no problems at all with the gun. A recent issue of "Guns Magazine" featured this gun and gave it very positive reviews. I can see this happening from being dropped, it not by the customer, then either while being packed or damaged in shippment. I purposely purchased this from ATI/GSG because of the quality of the MP5 that I purchased from them - it was excellent and very consistent (positively) in it's operation. If you are interested in this gun, I do not think it wise to decide against it from this article. At one time I prchased a Browning Buck Mark and had noting but problems with it. I would shoot it about 5 -7 rounds and the barrel would come loose. I lost my patience with it when the magazine fell out of the grip and flew apart. I sent it back to Browning and they replaced it. The Buck Mark is an excellent gun, and I would buy another if it were on my list of "gotta haves". I must admit, that the response of ATI customer service is less than professional in this instance.
