Thinking about a new gun.

Postby kowalzekc on Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:04 pm

So I am thinking about getting a new carry peice, my current one is a Kimber Custom Carry 4". I must say, other then it is similar in weight to the loose brick on my fire place, I love it. What I am looking at getting is a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 compact. I have shot a sub-compact glock and loved it, and I am wondering how similar M&Ps shoot to a glock.

Thanks
Chris

Head up to Bill's. They sell/rent both models. You could do a side by side comparison.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

The M&P won't be as similar to a Glock as a... wait for it... Glock. If you shot it and loved it, then get it. M&P is the new XD, which was the new Glock. Wait until after the next shot show. The next great plastic contender should be along by then.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II and it's a very nice carry piece. It shoots very accurately for a 3" and the local gunshop by me said that the Kimber was a better built piece than the M&P. In regards to what, I don't know. I know it's expensive, but isn't the M&P similar in price? Or am I thinking of another gun?

Welcome from Savage. The Glocks and M&P's are both excellent choices.
Don't pass up the XD's, especially with the 3 free mag promo going on from Springfield and the $50-70 better price.

And the P9, which was designed five years before the VP70, used an awful lot of polymer as well.

The only reason I was thinking about getting the M&P over the glock is because the hand grips on the S&W feel better in my hand and I found a SCREAMING deal on one NIB! I just want to make sure the M&P is a good quality piece and not a good quality paper weight.

Nothing wrong with the M&P. My wife shoots it better than a Glock. I like it too.
