Old, heavy, low capacity guns designed before we were born. The 1911A1 was the first pistol I ever fired when I was in the military in the 1950's. I fell in love and when I became a civilian again, a Colt .45 auto was one of the first things I purchased.
I've owned quite a few over the years but only have three today. I have a 5 inch, 4.25 inch and 3.5 inch. The smaller two are Colts and the 5 inch is a WW2 Remington Rand 1911A1 in very good condition. These are the guns I fondle, wipe with an oily rag and take out to shoot at the range. They are seldom carried, not because they won't do the job but because I choose to carry something lighter in the same caliber and far less valuable.
I've been toying with the idea of carrying one but never seem to really get with it. I shoot them better than my plastic guns and 8 rounds should be enough for any civilian situation but I haven't done it.
How about the rest of the 1911 lovers on the forum. Do you actually carry them or are they the ones you keep in the safe and shoot from time to time?
