I like 1911's

Postby Ramoel on Tue Dec 07, 2010 3:34 pm

Old, heavy, low capacity guns designed before we were born. The 1911A1 was the first pistol I ever fired when I was in the military in the 1950's. I fell in love and when I became a civilian again, a Colt .45 auto was one of the first things I purchased.

I've owned quite a few over the years but only have three today. I have a 5 inch, 4.25 inch and 3.5 inch. The smaller two are Colts and the 5 inch is a WW2 Remington Rand 1911A1 in very good condition. These are the guns I fondle, wipe with an oily rag and take out to shoot at the range. They are seldom carried, not because they won't do the job but because I choose to carry something lighter in the same caliber and far less valuable.

I've been toying with the idea of carrying one but never seem to really get with it. I shoot them better than my plastic guns and 8 rounds should be enough for any civilian situation but I haven't done it.

How about the rest of the 1911 lovers on the forum. Do you actually carry them or are they the ones you keep in the safe and shoot from time to time?

I always carry one, in my mind I would be disrespecting them if I didn't. ;)

Really I have too or my wife will take them from me.

I shoot the crap out of both of mine... they are my uspsa guns, which kind of makes them precluded from carry.

I prefer my 1911's with external extractors... the way Satan intended.

I have a 3.5 inch Citadel that is in my carry rotation. It is also a favorite for the range.

I carry them. I compete with them (that's being generous sometimes). I've participated in defensive handgun classes with them. It's my favorite pistol platform. I do not have any show pieces. All of my guns are run hard.

I carry one, but I cheat. It's a Springer LW Operator...

To me it depends on the day/situation/what I am wearing/etc....

Could be a XD9sc, Glock 30, or a 1911.

Edit**

Should say could have been, I don't own a Glock anymore.

I carry one whenever I leave the house. There is always one on the nightstand when I go to bed. I shoot both of my 1911s every trip to the range. And I am ordering a third sometime this month. A long slide model. If I have the funds available I will order one more in 2011 that is a 100th anniversary model.
