Rumor has it Leo Dwyer has folded up his shop.

I'm looking into casting my own with a couple other guys. We'll smelt and cast outside, then size and lube indoors.

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Of course, that's what I initially thought about reloading so what do I know.

I don't know yet. We haven't had our first casting party. But, the raw materials are free and the equipment is already paid for. My only cost is the wax lube.

Idle chit-chat from my new bullet casting guru. Heard it on Friday.

I just got off the phone with Leo Dwyer; Cast & Blast Bullets. He is still very much in business.

What he has done is told his big customers that he is not taking large orders until the price of scrap lead stabilizes and he can determine what to charge for the bullets. He is still very much going to be in the business. The price of the lead bullets will probably double! He knows several bullet casters that have closed shop due to the high lead prices.

He is expecting the prices on ammo / components to go up at least 30% the first of the year.

I have known Leo for at least 15 years. He runs the IDPA matches at the Faribault Rifle & Pistol club. (I help some too.)

I get it CHEAP... and would be willing to set-up a group effort with Mr Dwyer if he would be willing to cast it.

It is reclaimed lead off the guard indoor range I used to belong to. Currently cast into 10 lb ingots.

Spoke with Mr Dwyer this morning.

Seems I will be getting some cheap boolits after the first of the year...:D

That's good news. Like I said, it was idle gossip. Leo's bullets were harder than other brands I've tried. I liked them better.

Yikes...(with the caveat that I do not reload (at least yet!)... I just ordered some 9mm and .45 from Natchezss.com...it came to about .20/round delivered. (order was 3/4 9mm and 1/4 .45)....adds up fast! (For the math whizzes that was about .16 delivered on the 9mm and .32 delivered on the .45).

I was just going to do some pre-January stocking up at Wal-Mart, but the past few times I have been there they did not have any 9mm, so I just ordered instead.

Think the good folks at Bill's will let me start picking up my lead in addition to my brass? ;)
