Ruger LC9

The LC9 has a 3.12" barrel, is 6.0" long and 4.5" tall, making for a very compact 9mm pistol. The LC9 is impressively narrow at a mere .90" wide, and weighs only 17.1 ounces with an empty magazine. Featuring a black polymer (glass-filled nylon) frame and blued alloy steel slide and barrel, the lightweight, full-featured Ruger LC9 offers the versatility and capability of the popular 9mm cartridge in a highly compact, reliable, and user-friendly pistol."On the heels of the overwhelming and on-going success of the LCP®, customers repeatedly requested a lightweight, compact 9mm pistol. Frankly, they wanted an LCP chambered in 9mm" said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. "Delivering an American-made, compact 9mm that provides the same legendary Ruger reliability as the award-winning LCP, LCR® and SR9® became our focus. Meeting customer expectations is our goal and key to Ruger's continuing success," Fifer continued.

Interesting. I'd like to take one out for a test drive. The Kel-Tec P11 is decent enough for the money, but I haven't been satisfied with either of the ones I've owned. I missed two opportunities for the Kahr subcompact 9's, which is another one I'd like to try. I'd like to stay with 9mm instead of stepping down to the .380.

Two immediate points.

Ruger has taken carry by Citizens as a very strong market force. This as well as the LCP and the LCR show a very strong commitment to self defense issues.

Ruger also has been listening to people who find the .380 underpowered and expensive to shoot.

If the trigger is decent at all, I predict they will sell a ton of these.

So Ruger copies a Kel-Tec PF-9?

Watch, in a year they'll have a twin tube 12ga bull pup.

I did a little comparison just for S&G.

Ruger LC9 / Walther PPS 9mm, .40

Length 6.0" / 6.34"
Height 4.5" / 4.41"
Width .90" / .91"
Barrel length 3.12" / 3.19"
Weight empty 17.8 oz / 19.4, 20.8 oz
Magazine capacity 7 / 6-7-8, 5-6-7

i thought the trigger and handling of the LCP was junk - they still sell a million of them. this will also unless they have the standard three ruger recalls on any new plastic pistol they make.

i'd try it - then i'd pick up my Kahr PM9 and remember why i paid double and it doesn't bother me. then i'd pick up my PM45 and forget i ever shot the LC9.

meh. they'll make a ton of money though.

I picked up Ruger stock at 6.80 a share. Wish I had bought more! What they're doing they're doing right.

Does Ruger have some relationship with Kel-Tec? The closeness with which they are following on their heels along with absence of loud screaming on Kel-Tecs part is very curious.

Diamondback is also coming out with a micro 9 this year. And maybe Microtech finally?

does rohrbaugh compete with any of these? Or is the price point just way out of line as usual? last I knew they were almost twice the price?

meanwhile, looks like anything else at that price point. Any reason why ruger would automatically be superior or inferior to the others?

well poop on my parade then...

figured.

Oh well, a guy can still look at pictures and drool.

Hope the LC9 is made reasonably well. The LCP fiasco impressed me very little. Not real excited about doing Ruger's research and testing for them on the LC9. But, if it was made right, I'd be sorely tempted... no... I'd buy one, unless they make a .45 the same size. Kahr almost has me sold on that, speaking of which.

Would like to keep the pocket gun caliber the same as the big carry gun caliber. Haven't seen many small .45's though (slim as 9mm's at least, but reality has a way of ruining that.)
