Get your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!

Postby Squib Joe on Mon May 16, 2011 6:32 pm

So I watched Planet Of The Apes this weekend, and apparently the astronauts of the future will be armed with nothing more than a Colt 1903 pistol and 20 rounds of ammo.

They were up against gorillas with .. um.. Madsen SMGs covered in plywood?

They deserved to lose.

It looks like the apes still have those California thumbhole stock laws still on the books, though they repealed the '86 MG ban. And is that a broadened definition of open carry?

I think it takes place in future New York. Kinda makes sense. Only the Monkeys get guns in New York...

Those are no opposable thumbhole stocks

While woriking today I saw the Uptown Theater is showing this movie. It read Planet of the Apes 1968.

Probably to distinguish it from the remake of 2001.

They weren't the astronauts of the future, they were the astronauts of 1972 or 1978 (depending on who you ask). When they crashed, the clock in the ship read 3978. Again depending on the source, they were lost in space for 2000 or 2006 years.

Well, even in 1972 they should have had more than a pocket pistol and a roofing hammer to defend themselves.

This is gorilla warfare we're talking about!

These are hemostats. If you ask any emergency medicine professional, they will tell you they are the best roach clips.

Well, yeah.

I didn't see any fatties in their kit, so I thought they were scissors.

I was lucky to be in between sips of tea when I read both of these lines.

I just recalled that the Apollo program astronauts were armed on their missions. I did not get any certain information as to what they had, but there was a guess that it was a revolver in .38 caliber. I do know that they had nice big knives (more the size of a small machete) onboard.
