Looking for a .22 for my wife

Postby Thunder71 on Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:32 pm

Finally got my wife to the range on Father's Day and it was pretty clear that she has no interest in anything bigger than a .22 at this time. The .22 she shot was my Beretta U22 Neos (long barrel version), just trying to get some ideas in my head on what would be similar to my XDM in a .22 caliber handgun (for consistency sake).

Any good recommendations? I thought about a Walther P22 or Mosquito... but thought I'd see what you all came up with. If it's snappy she won't like it, so maybe the U22 is the best option, it's just kind of big in her hands and doesn't fit in my nightstand lock box.

issc m22, but personally i wouldn't keep a .22 as a nightstand gun, specially not a semi auto .22
.22 revolvers are also fun, my wife likes shooting her taurus 94

Never really looked into revolvers due to their limited capacity, couldn't hurt I guess.

Ruger just came out with a Single-Ten 10-shot revolver that looks pretty nice

Mine bought her first a while ago. I made no input and she bought a neos. Personally i don't like the look or grip, but its hers and she loves it, black long bbl with pink grips and I have to admit after the first couple hundred rounds the trigger broke in sweet and it shoots flawlessly. She did like the kahr guns but she finds any recoil more than a22lr too much. Now, if I can load some mouse fart 9mm's, she might get something one.

Huh, interesting... maybe I'll hold off, was of course hoping when the time came that she would pick it out herself but wanted some good options to at least start with while looking.

She shoots the Neos very well, might just have to find a larger nightstand safe for it and see how it plays out.

Not really along the same lines as the other suggestions, but for a fun, reliable range gun you can't beat a Ruger! My wife wanted the long barreled mkIII Hunter, and has loved it ever since.

Btw, that's handgun number three for her. Her first, was a S&W 6" model 19, which is her other firearm love. Her second was a Walther P22, she (nor I) cared much for it.

I can't resist, considering the thread title. Seen bumper stickers like this before, too...

+1 on the Taurus 94. Bought one for my wife as she prefers revolvers for their simplicity, and she wanted a .22 for the low recoil. Capacity isn't so much an issue, as it holds 9 rounds, and I picked up a couple speedloaders for it as well.

@ Wiscosotan - How is the trigger pull on that revolver? Sounds interesting, and a possible option for my wife also.

Id get her a taurus TRACKER, because it has interchangeable cylinders so she can use 22 lr for the range and 22 wmr (22 magnum) for nightstand use. If you want a semi auto, get her a .380 at least...
Shooting better than you since 1995.

My wife has a Walther P22 w/5" barrel and she loves it. Nice grip with adjustment "pads". Not snappy at all (5" barrel+compensator helps), and has excellent sights. She likes that it's SA/DA firearm.

Maybe your Mrs. can try my Mrs. P22 and see how she likes it?

$0.02 banked. 8-)

I also have a P22 that I use for training and with new shooters - Got it from thunderjohn at a great price, I like this pistol a lot.
