Smith & Wesson gun smith.

Postby justinvan on Mon Sep 12, 2011 5:43 pm

Need recomendation on a gunsmith to look at my Smith 27-2. I would not usually worry so much but this is a pretty mint gun and dont want any evidence left behind that it has been worked on. I have only put 75 or so rounds down the tube but every now and again it will "bind" or "jam" as I try to cock the hammer. I would prefer to have somebody on the S.W. side of the metro deal with it but I will travel if needed.

Try tightening your ejector rod up. It may be coming loose. If that doesn't work, just call Smith &Wesson. They have excellent customer service.

Even for a gun that is roughly 39 years old?

Recommend putting 2 empty cases in the cylinder before you tighten the ejector rod.

How does a loose ejector rod contribute to binding of the cylinder? (Unless she's so loose that she's almost falling out???)

the ejector rod is the second lock on the crane, or the hinged part the cylinder opens on, if the rod is unthreaded, it will bind the lock and put more pressure on the rear bearing surface and the cylinder bolt under rotation.

Having worked at a gun shop, I've seen both S&W and Ruger have the TOP customer service. Few questions asked, service for free (even when the customer clearly screwed things up, but only one freebie!). While each case is unique, I'd still contact S&W and see what they say.
