1911 in .40

What is everyones favorite 1911 in .40? I was oogling a Colt Combat Elite today at a local gun shop and the more I think about it the more I want to skip it and save up for a 1911 in .40.

I would primarily use it for target and USPSA SIngle Stack. I have looked at the STI Trojan. Does anyone else make a factory single stack .40?

Kuenhausen(sp?). Local concern

ETA: not sure how I came up with that name; Grundhauser is a local custom shop; offers a single stack 1911 in 40S&W.

Getting a 40 S&W 1911 is like buying a Corvette with a V-6 engine in it. A long time ago over at the clone section of CZforum.com, there were countless discussions about what caliber of EAA you should buy, and both then and now you could get 9mm, 38 Super, 40 S&W, 10mm, and 45 ACP. The CW from most of the people who owned multiple calibers was that regardless of the order you bought these, the 40 S&W would eventually become a safe relic and gather dust. It's a steak with no sizzle at all... Plus if you handload (pretty much a requirement for USPSA) and get the bullet depth wrong or don't apply enough crimp, and the bullet sets back when it feeds, you're screwed.

This is what all the cool kids use though at USPSA, because it's cheap, and it makes major. If only .45 wasn't so damn expensive. :?

Sweetness I am cool now, I got into it because it makes major and it also loads down to one hell of a soft minor. 9mm is still cheaper for minor but I can grab my 40 and shoot at both ends of the power factor scale. Which is great if you shoot both USPSA and IDPA.

If most cops go back to 9mm, it'll be interesting to see what becomes of .40?

USPSA set "major" fer Single-Stack, Ltd, and Ltd-10 to .40+ dia. ... fer a few reasons, if ya ain't runnin' a .40 in them divisions, it's tough sleddin'!

I'd personally prefer to see 165pf .355+ be "major" fer all divisions. Lotsa guys (myself included) would be left holdin' .40 pistols that'd be almost utterly worthless, overnite. But the .40+ dia. rule is bull****, no matter how ya slice it!

It should also be noted, in Single-Stack, while 9mm is "minor", 10rd+1 (vs. 8rd+1) is allowed. That could be an advantage ... depending on the course-design. That said, I don't know anyone, who's particularly competitive, who runs one. :?

I think they ought to take the Major PF back to 175 where it was originally calculated and leave it at that.

Just got back around to reading this thread.

Nice to see my simple question turned in to curing the power factor problems of the USPSA! LOL.

I am thinking I will just keep saving my money and go visit Mr Grundhauser sometime after Christmas to place an order.

W/O the USPSA powerfactor shenanigans, nobody would buy a 1911 in .40. It's sacrilege (and almost inoperable). :)

Yeah, But my equipment is all IPSC legal and my ammo chronos out at 180PF. :D
Aside from that I shot from C class to A class using a stock P7M13 shooting minor...I've paid my dues ;)
