can anyone suggest an ankle holster?

I dunno about an ankle holster for primary carry. Saw a policewoman at Streicher's trying one on, and while I didn't spot it initially, there was no way in hell that was her primary weapon.

Quite frankly, I can't see trying to get to a gun down there and being able to even come close to survive a Teuller drill. In contrast, I was pretty impressed with the post about the holsters for small guns that clip to the bra, and the 1.5 second draw time shown in the video was pretty impressive.

I have this one for my Taurus PT145.

I wouldn't use it as a primary method of carry. Try drawing while you're moving.

thanks guys. this is sort of a crappy situation. a comprimise, per se.

see, my sister delivers pizzas in Brooklyn Park, which as we all know, has become... well... let's say "not-so-nice" in the past 10 years or so. the place she works has a STRICT no-guns policy (and i've TOLD her many times to leave) but she loves it there. because of this, she needs to either keep her pistol locked up, or find a different way to carry. pocket holsters print too much, IWB is outta the question, OWB even more. that leaves us with off-body (in a purse? no thanks), ankle, or no-carry.

another thing, she currently uses one of those Remora holster thingies when she's not at work, and the way she carries it combined with her horrendous wardrobe, she might as well carry OWB. seriously, we were stopped at McDonalds a few days ago because the shift leader saw her weapon and was concerned about their other customers. the dude didn't say anything to ME, with my 5" 1911 OWB having a flannel over it, but my sister's LCP drew EVERYONE'S attention. not good, IMHO, for a tiny subcompact .380 to be seen like that. i mean, the concealability of the LCP is the main reason she doesn't carry a fullsize or smaller "compact", like the XD 3.8 she liked

The nice thing about Minnesota winters is that it is not all that hard to conceal a firearm. Don't really have any input on any particulars with regards to ankle holsters. The only thing I can add is it's better that then nothing.

Can she wear some type of cargo pants when working? Their loose enough and most have large enough pockets that you can slip a lot different handguns in the pockets. Then a pocket holster which are probably one of the cheapest holsters out there and she would be good to go.

I think that if she was attacked, it would a lot easier for her to get a hand in her pocket than to bend over to try and draw from the ankle.

Just a thought.

Note the comment about 6 posts down that one of these is worn by a woman in a legal firm where you will get fired if you have a gun on you, and nobody has ever "made" her for carrying.

And from a serious tactical standpoint, this concealment method probably has the additional benefit that if some mugger attacks a woman and she pulls up her shirt and her hand goes up to ta-ta land, his brain will probably freeze temporarily and wait to see if the show is about to begin.

I have one of these.... I used it once. Very sturdy. Held the the gun firm. The only problem was that it's an ankle holster.

Fact is, if she ever is in a position (God forbid) where she is forced to defend herself, and she retaliates in any way, she will more than likely lose her job regardless of the outcome of the altercation.

With that in mind, ditch the ankle holster and smart carry. By the time she is in a situation it will likely be too late.

Other alternatives, the bra holster isn't a bad idea, neither is Cobb's mention of cargo pants. Much faster acquisition.

Another option, they make carhardt style jackets with built in holsters. Very concealable, very eary to grab when needed.

Her job cares a lot less about her than she does about it, and it's high risk. She should be at least somewhat prepared.

They make a pretty good variety of CCW clothing, and I lucked into a 65% off deal on their top of the line double fleece vest/outer jacket combo that will withstand a Minnesota winter, and you can get the velcro mag holders and skeleton holster from Streicher's. In addition to all the other zippers and pockets, there is one zipper in the front of the pocket that unzips from the INSIDE, so you can still keep your hand in your pocket without brandishing, but poke the muzzle out of the unzipped opening without taking your hand out of your pocket.

I've carried my G26 in a Bianchi Ranger Triad for years. I bought the holster used on Ebay just to try one out, with the idea being I'd just buy a new one once it wore out. It's still going strong almost 4 years later.
As others have said, it's not the best method of carry. But it does have real advantages, and an ankle carried gun is far better than no gun. I use it to carry a back up gun, and when I can't conceal anything on my waist (like dressing formally). The drawbacks are the funny walk until you get used to it, lack of accessibility, and the fact that your gun picks up dirt and lint pretty quickly. With the G26, you end up with a big 'ol bump, but nobody will ever make you due to its location.
