Coonan 1911 in .357 MAG

Anyone ever held this or shot it?

This is the first I've seen a Semi Auto in a .357Mag and the company is also local.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any input.

Thanks in advance.

My avatar is a picture I took of Dan Coonan, at the outbreak a few years ago. They are fun to shoot, and don't kick as bad as most people think. I've got an older B model, but the new ones look like they are well made. Did I mention they are fun to shoot?

I have (had) a new production model. My uncle is currently "holding" it for me due to financial circumstances. Its a pretty sweet gun, very well built. I actually had to let it go before I had a chance to shoot it, but I met some of the guys from Coonan at Metro Gun Club and they let me shoot one of their test models. The thing is a hoot!

The original Coonan came out well over 20 years ago, and kinda faded into the bushes, and now it's back under full steam again.

I shot Vrooom's at a Steel Shoot with his MAX loads. It was a ton of fun and very controllable.

They make fun little fire rings when shooting full power loads.

OP: Yup, I got to shoot one at the Ahlman's Shooters Roundup last August, handed to me by Mr. Coonan himself. I'd have to shoot them side by side to know for sure, but I didn't notice much of a difference between a regular 45acp 1911 and the .357. They were letting kids shoot it, if that tells you anything about the recoil.

One thing I did notice is that when I tried to reach my thumb over to push the mag release, I couldn't do it without changing my grip. While it "felt" like a normal 1911 when I shot it, I suddenly noticed that the handle was a little bigger.

Workmanship was outstanding, from what I could see. The gun shot flawlessly.

I can think of a couple of pistols I need before I could start saving for a Coonan .357, it was still a cool gun to shoot and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

All sorts of fun, I too have got a chance to shoot the Vroom gun (its kind of a whore).

This is a bucket list gun for me, I want one some day.

One method that works is this.

1. Buy the gun
2. Take it to the range and shoot it
3. Clean it on the kitchen table
4. When asked about it be honest and tell her it is new and that you just got back from the range. Pointing out you can not return it now.
5. Convince her that the cost of a divorce is going to be WAY more then the gun, and she will only get back half of what was invested in the gun.

Another option is to buy it and sneak it into the safe and let it sit there for a few months. When she notices it calmly let her know that it's been there for months. Make it her fault that she's not more attentive.

OR

Buy it "for her". Tell her that you want something that would be comfortable for her to shoot and remind her that it is the same bullet diameter as a tiny little 9mm. Be careful with this one though. If she completely buys into it you'll never get to shoot "her gun".

OR

Buy it, make no excuses and make up the couch.

The best thing is to just have a women who likes guns as much as you do and only asks that she gets to be the first to shoot it.

But it sounds like you did not get that feature on the one you purchased.
