Looking at geting a new 1911

Postby Ranger01 on Thu Feb 23, 2012 3:08 am

So, I'm upgrading from my Citadel to something better. Problem is I don't know what to go with.

My requirements are:
5"
.45ACP
No Front slide serrations (I despise them)
Series 70 (I despise FP safeties on a 1911)
Night Sights (or ability to be upgraded without needing the slide to be milled)
Beavertail (not a necessity, but greatly appreciated)
Preferably non-railed
Preferably Internal Extractor
Under $800

I looked into getting a Ruger SR1911. But I don't feel like selling my citadel, paying Cabelas, and then waiting 6 months with no gun to get told "We can't get it". (also, I despise Cabelas and GM)

I looked into the Springfield RO. The sights on there are dang near impossible to replace, they are an LPA cut, no companies make Night Sights for that cut.(I do not feel like carrying a gun with a massive rear sight on it anyways)

I looked into SIGs. but the only ones they have that don't have the "SIG slide" are rare and expensive. (also EE and rail on most)

S&W, Expensive and EE. I could forgive the EE if I found one for a good price.

Colt, most are series 80, and even they are overpriced.

Kimber, only model with no FSS is really expensive, and FP "Safety".

So, anyone out there have any advice?

Rogers Cabelas had a used SW 1911 in your price range about a month ago. I haven't been up there since, so it could be gone. Maybe check the online gun library and see if it shows up.

i think you narrowed it down for yourself. Ruger SR1911. however, if you want to TRY a SIG before discounting them for the slide and extractor, lemme know. granted, the SIG has a Series 80 FPS...

Thanks for the comments.

I've thought of building one, but the costs of tools and parts would quickly put me over budget.

Ill take a look at Rogers Cabelas.

This thread should look familiar, but thought I'd get some fresh thoughts.

I really wish I could find a Ruger in stock for less than 800, but I've looked and I've been told by a few places "pay up and we'll see if we can get one to you in a minimum of 6 months."

(Sorry for odd reply, I'm posting from my phone.)

Has Ruger had their first recall on their 1911 yet?

You know its coming if it hasn't already.

Get an RIA, and have whatever sights you want put on it. Save the rest of your budget for ammo.

Technically I already have an RIA (both them and Citadel are Armscor guns).

If it were me I would just keep saving and get an Ed Brown or similar and have them make it exactly how you want..

Springfield loaded. Get over the front serrations. Or, get a mill spec or ro and just get the slide milled, it's cheap and can be done locally

RO's already milled too much for a regular novak - I think that's part of the problem.

You know you want one of these. The longer I have it, the better I like it. Feeds everything I've tried and it's more accurate in my hands than any of my other 1911's. Probably because it has such a nice trigger.

I officially hate you right now.

I wish I could find a local dealer that has one in stock (and isn't $200 over MSRP).
