Revolver carry options

Postby mnguy19 on Sun Mar 04, 2012 9:23 am

Hey everyone, I am currently looking at buying a Ruger SP101 327 mag for my CCW gun. I've only ever carried pistols and even then, perhaps somewhat unconventionally.

If you carry a revolver for your carry gun, what have you found to be the most comfortable option for doing so? The Ruger SP101 has a 3-inch barrel and comes in at 28 oz. so it's not the lightest or smallest option, but I love the 327 round so I'm willing to make it work. If anyone carries a revolver on a day to day basis, I'd love to hear what has been most comfortable for you. Thanks.

I have an SP101 in .357 with a 2 1/4 barrel and have a couple of IWB holsters for it. I prefer the High Noon holster and tend to forget that I have it on.

I carry my SP101 .357 in a $25.00 Galco iwb at 4 o'clock and hardly know it's there.

I've been carrying a Taurus snubby in .327 with a remora IWB holster at about the 5:00 position for the last couple weeks, and it is a really comfortable option. At $25 it's worth the gamble, and you can get them locally at Bill's South in robbinsdale. (might have to call ahead and order the revolver holster, and make sure to check the website for the correct fit.)
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

I've been carrying my snubby everyday for the last six months. a own an iwb from side gard holsters that works great. biggest thing look for a holster with the clip positioned high, close to the top to keep most of the weight of the gun inside the pant.

Add another reccomendation for the Remora. I carry all of my guns in one if I'm going IWB. For OWB I prefer UBG Holsters.

Hmm, those Remora IWB holsters look like a good affordable option, but that Crossbreed holster looks really nice. Between the two though, I definitely have some good options, thanks everyone.

I carried my 2.25" SP101 in a locally made Sideguard IWB holster at about 3:30 and it worked like a charm; highly recommended.

Then I switched to carrying my 3" GP100 and couldn't afford to buy a holster at the time so I made one which is essentially a copy of the Crossbreed/Kholster design. I like it even better.

to the OP, i have a 6" 357 Taurus i carry at work on an OWB holster similar to the Mernickle one posted above. with a big gun like mine, it is very nice. holds it nice and tight too. it was from Vlad here on the board

Another Side Guard user here! I carry my LCR in a High Slide OWB, exclusively. Comfortable, easy to use and easy to cover. I like the fact that the cylinder is above the belt line, so it doesn't add to the bulk already created by jeans and belt, and how it never really shows below the belt. Practically disappears without having to go to an IWB holster. In fact, when I was shopping around, shortly after applying for my permit, I talked to my local CoP who went right out and told me, "Don't even bother with IWB, they're not nearly as comfortable as OWB... That's all I wear when I'm off duty, just an OWB with a loose shirt over it. Nobody has ever noticed or cared. Besides, Roseau County is very gun friendly, so it's a moot point. Go with the comfort."

Have I mentioned I think our Chief is a pretty decent guy?

During the summer I've carried an LCR in one of these for a couple years now.

http://www.safariland.com/DutyGear/product.aspx?pid=27

It is a very good snubby holster.

I pocket carry the LCR in winter time. For that reason If I didn't already have two good holsters I would but one Remora too handle both tasks.
I love it when a plan comes together!

Revolver carry options

Postby desprado on Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:53 pm

When I used to carry revolvers, I carried a sp101 and then later a LCR in a D.M. Bullard cross draw. It was great. Very comfortable and easy to conceal under a t-shirt, vest etc.... Also great for driving or sitting.
