What does your Kahr PM/CM/CW/9mm like to eat and ride in?

Postby EJSG19 on Fri Apr 06, 2012 7:39 pm

Doing a little ammo shopping and holster shopping.

What do you guys have success with for defensive ammo in your little Kahrs? Federal HST, Hornady Critical Defense, ??? what else?

Also whats the going concensus on pocket holster preferance. Desanti Nemesis, Desanty Super Fly, Srigs Rough Out, what else??? Making the obvious assumption that the CM9 will 100% interchange with a PM9 holster, as most makers haven't updated their spec lists.

I was using Speer Law Enforcement Gold Dot Short Barrel 124gr +P and it worked great. Once my PM9 got past the break-in period, it reliably cycled everything I put in it.

My PM9 ran in an IWB holster, but it's a pocket-capable gun as well. Also, consider index carry.

My previous PM9 ate everything, really liked Winchester 115 or 124 grain for hand racking. My MK9 could care less what I feed it... both always rode in a Garrett Industries Silent Thunder either IWB or OWB, on occasion the PM9 would ride in a Galco Ankle Glove which worked very well.

I've since decided on Federal HST 124 grain standard loads for my carry guns.

CM9/PM9 share holsters, but I never found pocket carry worked for me.

My PM9 rides in a Sid Guard Slide holster or a Desanti Nemesis. Generally have Federal HST in there as far as Ammo goes.

My Kahr PM9 is the second most carried handgun that I have, the first is a Kimber PRO CDP. I have shot my PM9 maybe more than others, carry it a lot and also use it as my back up weapon in classes that a secondary weapon is required. I currently carry Corbon 115 gr. ammo and have had zero problems with it, but is not that pleasant to shoot as far as perceived recoil goes. My PM9 will also feed Speer Gold Dot, cheap Federal ball and cheap Winchester ball ammo with no problem. When I use my PM9 as a backup in a class, I shoot the cheap stuff and have had no problem with Win or Fed. My PM9 will not feed Winchester Silver Tip more than 6 or so rounds without malfunctioning, this was ammo that I tested years ago when the Kahr PM9 first came out an it plain did not work in my Kahr.

Bottom line, my Kahr PM9 with my current Corbon load is a combo that I have the confidence in to do what I need it to do. My preference in a handgun would be a combat firearm in .45 acp, but if restricted as everyday life can be, my PM9 with a proven ammo is a comforting preference.

Thanks for the input Cobb. To echo your last, I expect this Kahr to also be my second most carried gun. But I have the same feeling toward it. Likely it will be left at home much more than my full size .45 unless special circumstances happen.

A good friend has a CW9 that eats everything, including a steady diet of cheap steel cased stuff

Mrs. C. has a CW9 that cycles with Rem Golden Saber, WWB and my 115gr RN handloads. It didn't like my 147gr loads, we had a few FTF. No issues during the break-in period but I would still recommend following the instructions for the break-in. She has a Galco King-Tuk that it rides in extremely well. I tried pocket carry but the grip is just a smidge too long. The *M9 would probably be well suited to a pocket but I have not first-hand knowledge of that.

Break-in is extremely important. Don't carry until you pass that period. I had lots of stovepipes during that time, but once I hit ~200-250rds, it ran like a Swiss watch.

I carry my PM9 in a FIST K1.

You can rig the K1 as pretty much any kind of holster you want, and I like the thin kydex.

I'm all about the remora for pocket and iwb. I have a crossbreed super tuck micro for my cm9 as well and it works great, but the remora is easier and just as comfortable.

My CW9 carries 124gr +P Golden Sabers but I have not tried any other HP stuff. These work great. For practice it normally shoots 125 gr lead missouri bullet company 9-cones under 4 gr of WST. It seems to run everything fine even during break-in.

When I carry it, it almost always goes in my Side Guard the Slide OWB. I love it. When I need something IWB - hardly ever - it rides in a Theis IWB horsehide. When my wife gets ready before me and STEALS my CW9, she puts it in a Dave Erickson Snugholster OWB holster for women that is similar to a ladyfist holster. Need to get a CW9 ordered for her...

I mentioned the ammo above but forgot how it rides. Usually I pocket carry my PM9 in a DeSanti or Hedley pocket holster and once in a great while in a Rosen OWB holster, but rarely.

How many rounds until it's broke in? I just got a new Kahr 9mm , put 500 rounds through it this weekend and was kind of disapointed.
