.300 aac blackout pistol

Postby zero on Fri Apr 13, 2012 3:51 pm

Well i wanna make a .300 blackout ar pistol (so i guess it goes in the handgun thread right?) probably the 9" upper with the pistol legnth gas system, i was wondering tho do any companies make a bolt on gas piston for a pistol? Or is there a way to modify a cmmg gas piston to work on a pistol system? Has anyone here built a .300blk ar pistol? And if so any tips or ideas are much appreciated!

Alexander Arm's Gas Piston conversion kit is available in pistol gas system length, but I don't really see the point in piston systems in ARs, except for people who can't sleep while their gun is dirty and simultaneously hate cleaning.

Adams Arms' kit is really nice. Even comes with a rail.

When I get another ar15 type pistol or finally SBR my LMT MRP, it will have a piston system on it. Not for ease of cleaning, but for way less gas in the face. Especially on SBRs or pistols and I can't even imagine running a suppressor without a piston system. I find it funny how passionately against people are towards pistons systems. There's a reason the Army is looking into it, there's a reason SOCOM was interested in the SCAR 16s and there's a reason why SOCOM likes 416's now.

I don't think a piston system for 300 BLK is being advised. Even LWRC is going to be releasing a PSD in 300 BLK and it will be DI instead of piston. I would recommend checking out the 300 BLK forums as I believe the topic has been discussed over there.

FWIW, I have a 9" 300 BLK upper (DI) on my SBR and have noticed no issues with excessive gas in the face or function.

Primary Weapons makes a 300AAC pistol with a piston system

They also sell pistol uppers in this caliber

Hahaha but is anything that primary makes inexpensive at all? Well where is a cheap place to get a 300blk di barrel or upper right now?

Ive learned that more and more as i buy things, if you want dirt cheap you get garbage. That being said does anyone have a pws upper or know about their track record, both good and bad?

I've read about a couple of people over on the 300 BLK forum with the 9"upper who have had some feed issues.

The issues were with factory PWS uppers (one 9" and two 16" for sure) firing 115gr Remington factory ammo.

Here's the thread:

Hmmm thats kinda scary for a piston system that costs over a grand! I guess maybe ill be going DI after all...what places actually have barrels in stock or available for order? Are cmmg's expensive?

CMMG's own website seems to be in-stock on most (but factory websites aren't necessarily the most accurate for that, I'd give them a call), looks like they start at 600, and go up from there. 700 bucks for an 8.5 inch.

Looks like the well's a little dry in general, though.
