What 1911 should I buy?

I told my dad I was looking at buying a 1911, and he said get a Red Jacket one... Ive never really looked into them as a company.

As of right now I'm waiting for the funds to rise a little bit and I'm looking into the Springfield Loaded and TRP, and also the Ruger. I guess I'll probably stay away from the Remington for right now and I don't know their history as a handgun builder.

Thanks for all of the input guys, its been pretty damn helpful as to what I should stay away from and what I should look at more.

I didn't see anyone say your comment was dumb; only ask if you were joking. Red Jacket firearms was a no-name business until a "reality" TV series formed around them. The cost on that pistol is outrageous, just like the show.

You might as well have recommend buying a Plaxico Burress branded 1911 if there was such a thing.

The Ruger SR1911 is a GREAT gun for the price. The only problem is finding one. It has many features for a $600.00 1911.

I only own two 1911's, so I"ll stick to those. One is a full size stainless Taurus. I have heard lots of good things about them, and mine is no exception. It has been totally flawless. It is definitely a cheaper 1911, but it works well, which is the most important thing. My second is a Dan Wesson CCO. In case you don't know what a CCO 1911 is, it is a 4" slide on a officer size frame. This is on another level than the Taurus. The fit and finis is amazing. I LOVE my Dan Wesson, but it was not cheap.
The Taurus has been carried little because I find it a pain to carry a full size 1911 (but I am a skinny guy). It is mostly a range gun, and performs well in that role. The Wesson is one of the guns I carry most. It is the perfect size 1911 for me to carry, and only weighs 26 oz. I also love the fact that it isn't cluttered by writing all over the slide. It looks so clean. I realize it may well be out of your price range, but sometimes it's better to save for what you really want than to compromise. On the other hand, a cheaper 1911 might serve you just as well as a more expensive one. It just depends on what you want. As has been stated, the most important thing is to figure out exactly what features you want and then make a list of which guns have those features. Then take that list and compare the candidates based on price and reviews. If you are planning on carrying it I would strongly recommend that you consider the size and weight elements very carefully. You will be spending many, many hours with your carry gun, so make sure you get exactly what you want.
For the record, the only correct answer to the question "What 1911 should I buy?" is "At least one of each." Let us never forget this fundamental truth.

If I were to get into a 1911 again with a limited budget, I would do a Springfield TRP. It's a good quality 1911 and when funds allow you could basically have their custom shop turn it into a Pro. Springfields custom shop does some good work.

I have also heard some good things about S&W E-series but I don't have any personal experience with them.

P.S I saw on your original post that you said you are in college and such and that you are a Glock guy. You might want to just stick to glocks for now because 1911s can get pricey. You can get spoiled with Glocks.

What 1911 should I buy?

Well on top of the car payment I was jumped last saturday night and was stabbed in the stomach with a big blade. So now I'm out of work and money. So it looks like no guns or anything new for me for awhile.

Sounds like you NEED a gun. Lucky for the guy that stabbed you that you did not have one.

I was actually out at the local bars that night. That's why I wasn't carrying, I didn't know how much I was going to drink. Though if I had been carrying there would be a different ending to this story. Haha
