What 1911 should I buy?

Postby Hammered Squirrel on Wed Apr 18, 2012 5:53 pm

So I'm looking to buy a 1911 this up coming summer (when I get some damn money) and I was wondering what all of you guys were thinking would be the best to get. Now remember that I'm a college student and going to carry this hopefully. I would also like a full size, I'm thinking about trying to get a Springfield RO or a Remington R1.

What do you guys think? I know alot of you guys are going to tell me to get a Kimber, but remember college student budget.

Thanks in advance guys.

Also I'm a Glock guy... Might have to come over to the dark side though.

kimber, meh. been there done that. springfield makes a nice 1911. im a big fan of enhanced 1911's. i love their loaded model, and it can be had for a fair price. (less than 900) i really dig remingtons enhanced 1911. im sure someone can find some flaws, but i dont think remingtons has a full length guide rod. does it matter a whole lot? probably not. id say go for the remington. save a few bucks, and try out a newer 1911. ill bet youll be happy.

Springfield Loaded would be my first recommendation. TRP if you can afford it. If those price points are over the top then I'd look at a Para. If you go GI model there are a bunch in that price range.

yea i forgot to add, dont overlook other guys like para, RIA, and other folks. good 1911's are out there for a fair price. stop in at some shops like gun stop in minnetonka, and check out their stuff. they have many 1911's on hand.

I know there isnt really that much of a difference in prices between the RO and some Springfields or even the enhanced R1. I do want the tacticool looking 1911, but I feel that for the 1st of many to come that I should get a classic looking one. Though I am looking more high end you could say...

Thats the best way to figure out what you like the best. Ill have to spend some serious range time trying different ones out this summer once school is let out.

Armscor - Rock Island, Citidel, etc... great guns. I have two.

I have Springfields and have had Kimbers. They're nice, but twice the price.
When I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.

Don't buy Remington.

Springfield MilSpec for a bare bones but still modern 1911. Ruger SR1911 or Springfield Loaded/Range Officer for a mid tier price, high quality 1911.

+5 on the Springfield Loaded. It's my only 1911 and I really like shooting it. It's been very reliable.

Get the best one you can afford.
Personally, I love my SIG 1911. lemme know if you'd like to try it
