KEL TEK 380

Postby EAGSCCW on Mon Apr 07, 2008 11:31 pm

Brought the wife to Bill's yesterday and tried out a few carry type hand guns. She really liked the KEL TEK 380. It seemed to fire nice. but had a long trigger pull.

Experiences good, bad or otherwise, anyone??

Mine works fine. Guns is so small that the recoil is a little sharp. I've heard lots of good things about the Ruger LCP. It is out in some areas but I haven't heard of any being available around here yet. Sounds like it may be worth waiting for though.

I have and carry the P3AT more than any other gun... generally a backup mode. Mine is very reliable and easy to shoot. The trigger smooths out with more rounds down range so go shoot it. All in all great carry guns.

They're great little guns, but make sure that you check for function before carrying. They have a reputation of having some feeding and extracting issues, which are easily resolved with a "fluff and buff" where you polish all the parts. They're a little rough out of the box.

I have one and carry it when I can't carry anything else. I wouldn't choose it as a primary gun. Too hard to shoot under stress, and not enough power out of the 380 round.

They are great. They suck. You will get both opinions. I am on my 3rd one. The first two were terrible, never worked right. KT service is good, they got them working, but I did not trust them. I said I would never buy one again. Of course, then I bought #3 because that size keeps calling. #3 works fine and is carried regularly.

Terrible sights, horrid trigger, (for me) useless past about 15 feet. But....the size is alluring. Not as bad to shoot as most people might imagine.

I must agree about the teeny sights and horrible trigger.
I have only had one and it has never given me any problems although I did the fluff and buff before ever fireing a round, I kinda like tinkering.
The one I have has been carried every day in a pocket for the last 5-6 years as both primary and backup. I also have a j frame but evidently my pockets arnt as big as some others so it doesnt get carried unless its a coat pocket but then the 380 is still in the pants pocket.

I have one and like it. Mine has not had a single problem, but there are others that haven't been so lucky. I did the "fluff and buff" before I took it out. Check out ktog.org for lots of good information.

IF I were looking for another one I would wait until a Ruger LCP is available and give it a try.

We also have one, and I carry it once in a while, it really dissapears in the pocket and is impossibly easy to carry. We put a few hundred rounds through it right out of the box without a single hitch. I think the newer ones must get a fluff'n'buff before leaving the factory because of how smooth it went shooting. Before I fired one round though, I did get a Hogue wrap around grip for it. HandAll Jr I think it was, cut to fit.

I don't remember seeing this small new Ruger at the show. Goggled it and saw some video of it looks pretty sweet. Seen any available locally?

Also wait a year to see if the gun works... IMHO.

You MUST add the finger grip extension to the bottom of the magazine. I use the Bersa Thunder, the NAA will work and there are other aftermarket makers. Check ebay....helps prevent limpwristing.

I have a LCP and have put around 500 rounds through it with no difficulties. SHR in Isanti had one yesterday under the glass. I carry mine deep IWB and can carry with a tucked in T-shirt and is pretty invisable esp with a cell phone as a cover piece in the area of the gun. :geek:
