Best Night Sights ...

Postby Flip on Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:31 am

I'm interested to see what you guys think are the good, bad, & ugly for night sights. I'm mainly focusing on aftermarket here but if there are makers of night sights that I don't know of, feel free to add them to my list

1) TruGlo
2) Meprolight
3) Trijicon
4) AmeriGlo
5) P-T
6) XS (formerly Ashley)

Also, do you like the three-dot layout or the dot the 'i' lahyout?

I have the Trijicon night sights on both of my S&W M&P's. I prefer the orange front with the green back but then again that is my preference as i found it helps me to aquire the front sight first.

I read a lot of reviews on night sights and decided i would purchase the trijicon from all the reviews i had read on line, and i catually really like them as opposed to some Meprolights a friend has on his gun.
Really i am your worst Nightmare, for i walk the night and the cover of darkness belongs to me :D

I have had the XS "Big Dot" and they are great for close distances (the dot is indeed big and makes precision shots at longer distances problematic). I then tried the TruGlot TFO's and fell in love and changed all my carry Glocks to those sights.

For old eyes, the combo of fiber optic in the daylight and tritium at night is superb.

IMNSHO.................The best night sights are to learn to point shoot and then you can spend the money on ammunition instead............ ;)

I have 2 guns with TruGlo TFO's, 2 with Meprolight and 1 with Trijicon.
The TruGlo's are the brightest both day & night but I've had a couple of them fail.
One dot on each set quit glowing right after purchase, which got replaced from the store I bought them at .
The fiber flew out of one of my TFO front sights after extended use, which the factory repaired no charge.
The Trijicon's look to be the best quality.

My vote goes to the TRU Glo TFO's also. I have had them on three guns and have had no issues.

I agree with hammAR, I forgot what my sites look like 8-)

I tried TFOs and don't really like them, they are obtrusive and draw too much attention to them rather than the target. They probably work ok until you stop using them and start point shooting.
You should be focusing on the front site and not the rear anyway.
I have Trijicons on my M&P, haven't done much night shooting with them and the lights aren't visible in the day.

I normally carry around a Hellfire and don’t need night sites. http://www.opticsplanet.net/surefire-he ... light.html

I have XS sites on a J frame. I’ve never shot at night and the sites aren’t the greatest to begin with. I do like that I can see where the gun is on my night stand in the dark. Crimson Trace grips aren’t on the list but they work well in light and dark.
