It's pretty hard to type, and I'm only posting because you never know, it might save somebody else a thumb. I was using a 2-handed grip, fired off a Cor-Bon DPX .460 ;and the blast came violently out the side of the gun.

As a demo years ago before letting us shoot a revolver for the first time my friends dad placed a piece of typing paper which was folded in half over the frame of a .22rf revolver and then fired a round visual aides are well visual. Makes a great learning tool for new shooters.

What about point shooting? I thought that was a valid way to shoot...

Actually, that demo is done for the Women on Target class every year. And yes, high pressure blast fronts are very effective cutting tools. That's how they cut through steel beams in building demolitions, but you're using RDX instead of 45 grains of Lil' Gun. The 460 appears to cut cleaner than the pictures of the Smith 500 injuries I have seen, which makes sense considering how damn fast the bullet comes out of the barrel.

One of the MAIN design criteria for the 460 was that it had to have the fastest muzzle velocity of ANY factory pistol ever made using factory ammo. Considering this includes the Ruger Hawkeye in 256 Win Mag and the XP-100 in 221 Fireball, they had to come up with a load that was running at least 2300 FPS to walk their talk. Best you can do with a Speer 300 grain Gold Dot in a Smith 500 is something over 2,000 FPS... :( :( :o

I question the pertinence of such a demonstration, as the paper is so light, and ain't even tied around the gun, for the least amount of resistance.

I'd think maybe a belt, secured tightly around the gun, might be better ... although, maybe use a hands-free rest, and a string to pull the trigger ... in case the belt redirects some gas rearward?

... even nylon webbing, might be interesting!

Paper is cheap easy to get and disposeable and shreds fairly easy even from 22 RF, I dont know what 22rf would do to your finger but mine isnt getting close enough to find out. Perhaps a hot dog would make a nice demo.

Had this happen to me ONCE! You will sure as &#!+ remember not to do it again. I was young untrained and unsupervised with my Ruger Super Single Six shooting .22mag. Hurt like heck but I will never forget.
