Glock 30sf vs Springfield XDM 3.8" .45 compact

Postby gearguy10 on Mon Dec 31, 2012 7:32 pm

I have always purchased full-sized guns and carry on occasion but I want to be more vigilant about carrying and am considering a compact model. My caliber of choice is .45 acp. Anyone ever compared the Glock 30sf to the Springfield XDM 3.8" .45 compact?

For the record, I've owned a Glock 22 and 23 and currently own an XD .40 full-size. I prefer the feel and grip angle of the XD and was never really fond of the Glocks, but the specs on the 30sf seem to come in a bit lighter, shorter, and seems to be a bit sleeker for easier draw from concealment. Just wondering if I should give Glock another shot?

If .45 is your caliber of choice you really owe it to yourself to look at the XDs. I carry an XDm 3.8 Compact daily and wish I had something slightly smaller. I have to carry concealed at work and have to be careful about what I wear with the 3.8. As soon as the XDs comes out in 9mm I'm grabbing one. They feel great in your hand and have a much nicer trigger than the Kahr's and similar small guns. Nobody can tell what handgun you should get, but I would sure check it out.

I think you can rent a Glock 30sf at Bills....in fact I DID before I bought mine...it has a very 'comfortable' recoil... the counter guy described it as a 'push'

You won't be wasting you time by shooting a box or two through it...on the other hand I can't carry it....I carry a single stack nine in my right back pocket jeans and am happy with that.

I saw the XDS on the Springfield website. Piqued my interest but the capacity is 5+1 vs the XDM at 9+1. I guess if I have to carry less than 10 rnds I'd rather just carry my 1911. I will check it out if I can find one though.

the often overlooked "carry 45" is noteworthy, the Kahr PM/CM45s. very nice little pistolas. however, if you're stuck on stupid... i mean Glock... the 30SF is probably the only offering from Gaston Glock that i can shoot. well, i like the 20 and 21s in the SF offerings as well, but let's keep that a secret ;)

If I'm not mistaken it's 'rukwikenuf' that rented me the Glock 30sf at Bills and described the recoil as a 'push'

I just watched the first 2 minutes of the Hickock 45 vid and if you look closely you'll see the XD has significantly more muzzle flip. ???

I'm looking at the XDs myself as a backup. Good choice.

I was at Bill's the other day to check one out, but they were sold out and the range one they have was in-use. I did check out a nice Sig 938, but I have a feeling I'll go with the XDs, but I just don't know until I shoot one. I know I dig my XDm just fine, and I'd like to have a .45ACP 2nd carry for backup. I'm not one to have 10 different guns or 10 different calibers. both are too much if a PITA to deal with.

I have a Glock 30, carry it daily. Never had a problem printing etc, but I also used to carry a XD-SC9.

I could conceal the XD a little better but, both are on the bigger size of small carry options.

I also carry a 5 inch 1911 and can conceal that as good as any.

Right on. I probably could too, but it's not comfortable enough for me. I may have to get an XDS so I can carry concealed when I need to, because the problem is that you need to go to certain places every day and you can't openly carry there, though I wish I could just open carry everywhere I go. It'd make life a lot easier, more comfortable and it'd be better overall for me anyway.

Great video. I keep forgetting to refer to Youtube for this kind of stuff. I'm kinda leaning towards the Glock on this one. Going to have to try one out. Man, I wish I had a shooting set-up like that. Living in the burbs stinks.

Not a fan of the XDs. On the other hand, I carry a G30 often and always come back to it after flings with 9's and wheelies! The G30 shoots way to good for a compact .45!

I carry a 30sf and love it. Not too big, not too small. Still feels "full" in my hand, but never had a problem printing (Im not a very big guy either, 5'10" 170#). Carrying IWB is virtually disappears. I like it. I even used it in USPSA for a season with pretty good results, well for me anyway...
