.45 for the wife

The wife want's a new carry gun that carries a punch. She has no issue with recoil, I am quite impressed how she handles my .45's. Her only requirement is that is has to have a manual safety. The one she really likes is the Taurus millennium Pro and really the only one we find that fits the bill in our price range. Anyone have any opinions of this firearm or know any good alternatives?

I actually tried very hard to talk her into the the XDS but she is insistent on the manual thumb safety. Offered her many great pistols, when a woman gets somethng in her mind your not going to change it.

My wife carries a Kimber Ultra Compact II.

I used to carry a Taurus Millennium Pro PT145. I had very few problems with it. I think it had 1 or 2 failures to feed, and then, several years later, I had trouble with one of the magazines..

Maybe a S&W M&P .45 Compact w/safety. It's gonna cost more... (but not as much as a Kimber...)

PT145 is a good choice (make sure its at least a Generation III model)
PT745 is a single stack - works well for smaller hands

lots of other choices:
Taurus 24/7 compact
M&P Compact with safety
Sig P220 compact - SAO version has safety
HK USP compact
Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact

numerous 1911 style

Suggestion - be very selective in cartridge choice. Some of the 230gr cartridges
don't perform well out of the short barrels. Best to test the performance
of several out of your pistol before settling on one.

If your 45s are all steel remember as weight goes down recoil goes up.
The 50GI comes with manual safety and should have a healthy punch to match its price< I still want one

Rock island 3.5" Cs 1911? Dead reliable. Right in there as far as price goes. Manual safety. I love the heck out of mine.

A S&W CS45. They are out of production, but you find them on the used market. I used to have one, was not bad to shoot for a small .45, accurate and reliable.
I only sold it off, because it was just a tad too big for my short little fingers. I still have it's little brother,the CS9.
3rd gen S&W's are great pistols.

Look out Mellonhead!! Sawgrass has a very high end 1911 collection, and she'll proably try to get your wife hooked on an SS Guncrafter's Commander, which is fully as pricey as any Prada purse you could buy in Paris!!

I was pumped to see this thead. My wife hates shooting 9mm (and even .380) because of how snappy they are. She shot my new 1911 yesterday and it was tough to pry it from her hands. I don't know about you guys, but I was about the proudest husband in the world seeing my wife enjoy shooting the .45. I am in the same boat now trying to find the right .45 to be her carry weapon. Her concern is that they can be heavy and bulky and she is pretty petite. She thinks that my Shield is maybe even too big for her which would rule out the XD-S. I want to see that new Boberg .45 when they release it. I guess I might just have to buy a bunch of .45s until she finds the one she is comfortable carrying.

On a related note: Has anyone shot any of the Boberg models?
