My First Rimfire Pistol (and the second)

Postby Uffdaphil on Mon Mar 25, 2013 2:34 pm

I thought the Buck Mark Standard en route would be my first rimfire handgun, but a local Armslist listing ambushed me today. Seller said he thought it was a MkII and not wanting to take the time to research and lose out, I took a chance since it looked in decent condition. Traded some 5.56 and cash.

So it turns out to be a 1952 Standard (37xxx) with some bluing loss on the grip frame and the rest pert near perfect. It's for shooting not display and I am a happy camper.

For a 1952 model, it looks to be in great shape. And BTW, it's the first model. Congratulations!

What'd you have to give for that?

Traded 300 rds of 5.56 + $150.

It's the second or third year, not the very first edition. The earliest ones had a red eagle on the grip. When Ruger's partner, Sturm, died the eagle was changed to black as a sign of mourning.

I meant that it's not a MKII or MKIII, it's the first model. Yep, I knew about the eagle color change. Very nice pickup!

Don't put (or try to put) a Majestic Arms stripper kit in it.

No mods whatsoever for this one. Just try to find 4-5 mags and see how far I dare break it down to clean out the gunk. A quick CLPing shows little wear on the bolt/chamber/bore. Smooth light trigger. I like.

Buck Mark .22 should arrive Thur. So I will post a quickie comparison then. Wish I still had my Hopalong 2-gun holster.

Posted pic of second one just brought home - ten year old Browning Buck Mark Standard in 95% condition. Beautiful polished slab sides don't show in photo. Don't make me choose between this and the Ruger.

its amazing to see that kind of guns right now, cause that was in 1915 models of gun,
but steel there for a long time, i think the owner of that is a good person.
